Can we talk about this here? If not here, then where? I'd like to compare notes with other people trying the beta, starting with the new App Store, new notifications center, and changes to how you move apps on the home screen.

Your Feedback is Important to Improving Accessibility on Apple platforms

Don't assume that Apple is aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference - submitting bug reports directly to the company helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. Your report may provide crucial information. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority they give to fixing the bug.

If you're using a beta version, use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you're using a public release, follow the instructions on this page.

Below is a link to our guidelines concerning the posting of information or questions about beta Apple software: https://www.applevis.com/help/posting-content-applevis-website/can-i-post-information-or-ask-questions-about-beta-or-preview.

The following types of posts are not permitted:

  • Anything which could be considered as technical support with beta software. For example, seeking help with installing/using beta software or problems with native or third-party apps after installing a beta.
  • Discussion of bugs introduced or fixed in a beta release.
  • Detailed descriptions, reviews or walk-throughs of how new or changed features are implemented in a beta release.

Any information publicly shared by Apple about new features or changes in a forthcoming software release is not covered by an NDA. This typically includes information made available at events such as new product launch announcements, Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, and on the preview pages of Apple’s website. Consequently, this information can be freely shared and discussed on the AppleVis website. Additionally, new or changed features in a beta release can be freely shared and discussed on the AppleVis website - even if not originally made public by Apple itself- provided that any post satisfies the rules set out above on this page.

This sounds too Restrictive to me. Perhaps making a topic on Audio Games or elsewhere would be better? Just a thought.

I don't understand why people can't talk freely about a piece of software that has been willfully handed out to the public for testing. It seems users as well as Apple could gain a lot from such discussions. Just curious

Whilst I am in Complete Agreement That AppleViz Beta discussions Are Uber Restrictive, in particular, since the what's new in iOS 11 thread encourages people to try new betas and give feedback to Apple, I can also understand why it is prudent to be cautious and conservative when it comes to encouraging iOS users to install beta software! In General, Beta Software Junkies are Power Users! We Paid Our Moneys And Takes Our Chances! Not a Good Idea For The Uninitiated! Am I a Fan of This? Not Really! Nope, I am Certainly Not! However, I Get it! OK Sports Fans, Back to The Batcave!

The only restriction that really makes sense to me is the item about giving technical support with installing the beta. All the others are really, really restrictive, and this info can be found on other blindness-related podcasts. It is nice to be able to hear what's coming especially if it is a public beta. Now if someone was discussing a developer build I would completely understand and agree with that restriction. But given that this is a public beta, I see absolutely nothing wrong with discussing the features in detail and giving short walkthroughs of new and changed features. I know the Applevis team and I disagree on this point, but I just had to say this. If it is a public beta, you guys do need to be a bit more relaxed. The only thing I can suggest is to keep all beta discussion under a specific thread. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I totally agree. Being able to discuss the beta will also help us give better feedback. For example, **Moderator's Note: example removed as it breaches the site posting guidelines**, and if this is a VO problem, Apple should know about it, but if this is user error or if they for some reason got rid of this, then me giving that feedback is a waste of time for everyone.

Given The Newness of Apple Public betas, it is my Humbled Prediction That The Fine Folks at Applevis. Will Revisit This Policy And Act Accordingly! Or Not! LOL

These restrictions are most likely governed by Apple. When signing up for beta testing, is not everyone asked to keep many aspects of the beta versions confidential? These are betas after all. Things will come, and go. How something is or is done, can and sometimes does change all-to-gether.

No matter how we feel about being able to discuss public betas there is one important thing to remember and I think it has been mentioned already but when you install a beta you sign a non disclosure agreement. Just because other people disregard these does not make it ok to do so. That is just something to remember. Also as has been stated it will change many times before it comes out. There are ways of starting smaller groups of just beta testers who can then freely talk amongst themselves about the betas.
