I'm changing my iPhone and also my phone number. Unfortunately I can't keep my old number to port across as its a work number that I'm not allowed to keep. Before I do the switch, I wanted to find out if there was a way of syncing my contacts, notes, reminders, apps and their content etc. from my old phone to my new one?
I thought perhaps that as my old phone is backed up to the iTunes web site, when I attached my new phone, although its a different phone number, because my iTunes user name remains the same, all the content would sync OK? Or am I being a bit too hopeful?! I hear a lot about airdrop and wondered if that would be another way of sharing info from one phone to another, but I can't find airdrop either in the control centre or within settings to turn it on, let alone discover if that would work.
In summary, is there a way or ways of moving all my stuff from my old phone to my new one or should I start to make notes of everything I've currently got stored on my old phone in preparation of having to input and set it all up from the beginning on my new phone?
I'm hoping that somebody will know what I can do other than start from scratch again! Many thanks. Debbie

some of that will auto sync
hiya Debbie, some of that stuff, the contacts, notes, reminders, calendar items and so on, will come over automatically if you have them all syncing via iCloud. that shouldn't cause any problems. as for the apps and content how ever, the only way for any of that to come over, is if you load a backup on your new phone. so when setting it up, in stead of set up as new, you want the option that will let you pick a backup from iCloud. personally i very rarely do that, as i tend to think like the older days of computing, and always setup as new, to avoid any buggy files being sucked back into your shiny new phone. but that's just me. a lot of people, including myself, have restored from a backup just fine and had the phone up and running as if nothing has changed other than the device / number or what ever.
and yes, the iCloud is seperate from your number, so a change of device / number won't have much if any impact. the only possible thing that might happen, is if you have that old number set up as your 2 step / 2 factor authentication. but you should be able to reprogram all services to work with your new number if you don't already have it set up to use an app to generate auth codes.
hope this helps.
good luck, and have fun with your shiny new phone
iCloud
Hello,
I agree with the previous poster. When I get a new device or perform a factory restore, I prefer to install the apps manually as I don’t want to reinstall any apps I haven’t used in ages.
To be safe, you should turn on icloud for the things you can’t afford to lose if something happened to your device. Go to icloud settings and be sure to check contacts, calendar, reminders and whatever you deem important. This way, those will always be in the cloud and available to your IOS, Mac or Windows.
HTH and good luck.
A computer back up should work also.
I am not an expert on iPhones and Max yet, for I am still learning how to use them but, I think that a computer backup should also do the trick. Maybe our more experienced Friends can shed some light in this matter for us. I can only say that, for me, it has worked both ways, Computer backup or iCloud.
My experience
I wasn't switching numbers, but it should be the same because that's in the sim card or something. I had the people at my carrier's store set up my new iPhone from an iCloud backup I made the night before when I had to replace the old phone. I think it took a half an hour and pretty much everything was on the new phone, including my network password. It seems like I remember having to put in a few passwords for apps, but just about everything was there including the folder structure.
Hi Folks! Many thanks to
