Hi! What are your impressions of the VoiceOver improvements on the 10.9.2 update? I've only used it a few hours but as far as I've noticed Safari, Mail and Finder works smother with VoiceOver now. Have any of you noticed what bugs that aren't fixed yet?

hello there's a VoiceOver bug that still occurs in the finder, in OSX 10.9.2. step-by-step instructions to reproduce it: 1. go to the dock 2. select "downloads" 3. VO+shift+m to open menu 4. select "date added" order (do not know exact english translation for it) 5. go to download folder from the desktop or wherever, by option+command+l 6. set the same ordering criteria, "date added" by viewing options with the command+j shortcut 7. set the finder in column view by command+3. 8. try to navigate the download window by pressing up and down arrow; you'll notice that voiceover does not talk I use this settings as I want my last downloaded file to be listed as the first one, so that i am always sure of what i am opening. but since mavericks there is this annoying issue and I must switch finder to list view (command+2) instead thanks for now

I updated to 10.9.2 earlier today and have noticed a major improvement of VoiceOver performance. Keep in mind that not all of us had the same issues with 10.9.1. My issues seemed to have been to the extreme on my mid 2010 iMac, and not so bad on my 2013 Mac Air. I have noticed that mac mail in classic view works much better. Although I removed my gmail account from my computer two weeks ago and have yet to reinstall it as on 10.9.1 I couldn't get Mac Mail to run with the gmail account installed on the computer, and am deciding whether or not to switch back to gmail, as so far I have been very happy using my me.com for most things. One of the things that Apple finally addressed as it has been broken since Mountain Lion came out is web spots in safari going in the proper way, meaning if you click VO command right bracket you will be taken down the page to the next web spot, and VO command left bracket will take you to the previous web spot or up a page. Not sure why this issue took two years to fix, but I am very grateful for it finally being fixed. Overall, I am noticing a much smoother experience in 10.9.2 Apps still seem to be a little sluggish in opening but hopefully that will be addressed in the next version. Numbers and Pages still seem to be fine. Will report other improvements and bugs as I come across them, but I would highly recommend if you are running Mavericks updating to 10.9.2

I just updated to this version yesterday. Even though I am a brand-new Mac user, I have noticed some fixes with Voiceover. Or at least 1 that I know of. That is, the message count in Mail is now correct as advertised. Ever since getting my Mac Book Air 2 days after Christmas, I've only really browsed the Internet with Safari and Google Chrome, and checked out Mail. I've briefly checked out Text Edit and Pages, as well as a few of the other default apps and they don't seem bad at all. I suppose I'll be able to tell more as I become more productive on here. One thing I must say though, is that VoiceOver is incredibly good and Apple should be and probably is proud of itself. Or should that be proud of themselves, lol!

Hi again. Something just occurred to me, that was present when I first got my Mac and it is present still as of yesterday's release of 10.9.2 . There is a slight discrepancy with passwords, or at least this has been the case on both mine and my sister's Macs. Voiceover says that passwords will not be spoken but rather that clicks will be heard. I've found that this is only partially true, as not all characters of a password are even heard at all. A workaround for this is to navigate with the arrow keys to make sure all the correct characters are there. When this is done the clicks are consistent, but not when actually typing in passwords. Has anyone else been experiencing this? It might be a rather trivial thing to some, but not if you really think about it.

I haven't had any issues with password clicks on my Mac Mini. Every character I type into a secure text field has always registered a click for me. That is not, however, true in iOS 7, where clicks are frequently not heard unless you type slowly. Maybe it can also happen on the Mac and I am not typing quickly enough? One issue I have had with secure text fields, at least in Safari, is that Quick Nav will mysteriously stop working when I navigate to a secure text field. Quick Nav will remain unusable until I go to another webpage. As far as I know, the issue has been around since Mavericks if not before, so it is not new in 10.9.2.

for me it does not matter as I have my stuff in an incripted disk so copy and paste is my thing.

How ever I really don't care about this bug. it has been around since snl, and it looks like they will not fix it. and more times then to for me even if I do arrow I only hear 1 click even if I entered 36 chars for my password.

I updated to Mavericks a few weeks ago and it hurt the performance of my mac so much I was about to loos my mind and down grade. When I opened my mac book it would literally take like three minutes for voice over to start making any sound even though the volume keys would make sound. Any way as far as I can tell I think this most recent update has my system running at least as well as it did on mountain lion. and I'm super loving the new pages, I feel like such a gray accessible word processor was really the one giant thing we were missing in OSX.the

I am running a 2013 MacBook Air, which I have left on Mountain Lion until the latest OS was updated. I am experiencing the same password bug with the clicks not being heard. I am pretty confident and type passwords rather slowly when they are long to make sure they are right, so don't find this too troublesome. I think I'm about to take the plunge and update. I got my Mac around the same time as the poster who got it after Christmas, and have been about as productive. So I think I won't know the difference if there are still a few VO bugs. lol

The only problem that I experienced for the last two days was a FaceTime audio problem but I have it fixed now. The problem that I had was wheir the FaceTime audio on the face time app would give you a FaceTime failed message each time you tried to make a FaceTime audio call. To fix this issue I had to go in to /library/preferences/systemconfiguration then I had to delete the network interfaces PLS file then restart the mac.

HI. for the person who said quick nav stops working in a secure text field such as passwords in safari, just command tab away from the safari window and toggle quick nav off then on. quick nav should now work in safari again. Hth

Hi! I've had a few issues since upgrading from MountainLion to Mavericks. 1. I can't still as easy as in MountainLion save or open attachments in Mail. It is especially hard when I want to save files from my Exchange-account. 2. For Dropbox the menu in the status menu is not visible to Voiceover. However it showed up today when I had restored from a backup. So it could be a broken preference-file somewhere that causes that. But on my laptop which runs MountainLion, the status menu shows up just fine. 3. I've told Dropbox to show me an alert when something is changed. That also works, BUT: If I save a file on my laptop in Dropbox a window will pop up for 20 seconds and then disappear from the screen. That means that if I am typing (like now) I will miss this notification. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

I am using el capitan on my mac. What is the number for the next upgrade called sierra? I also heard about something called high sierra. Does any body know anything about this?

macOS 10.12 Sierra is the next upgrade. You can download and install the software update from the mac app store. MacOS 10.13 High Sierra is coming out to all macs that support Sierra in the fall.
