Apple Releases iOS 6.0.1

Apple just released iOS 6.0.1. The software update has hit Apple’s servers and is propagating now; iOS 6.0.1 is a bug fix release, which improves reliability of the iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5th gen on WiFi networks with WPA2 encryption, fixes the widely-reported issue of horizontal lines showing up on the software keyboard, and improves the behavior of the Camera flash.

iOS 6.0.1 changelog
â€˘Fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air
â€˘Fixes a bug where horizontal lines may be displayed across the keyboard
â€˘Fixes an issue that could cause camera flash to not go off
â€˘Improves reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks
â€˘Resolves an issue that prevents iPhone from using the cellular network in some instances
â€˘Consolidated the Use Cellular Data switch for iTunes Match
â€˘Fixes a Passcode Lock bug which sometimes allowed access to Passbook pass details from lock screen
â€˘Fixes a bug affecting Exchange meetings

For over-the-air updates, iPhone 5 users will have to install an iOS Updater utility first, which requires a full reboot of the device before installing iOS 6.0.1. After the restart, the Software Update panel in settings will allow you to download iOS 6.0.1.

To save time you can find the direct link and this article over here at:

The above link has the direct link where you can download the actual IOS update file if you want to use instead of the over the air update.

Enjoy!

P.S. If anyone else notice any new bugs or have fix any other things. Please leave a comment here so we can spread the word!

Thanks!

Had a pretty painless experience in updating my device to the new IOS 6.0.1. The actual downloading of the IOS was quick and simple. Oddly, the actual installation took a great deal of time to do. I say I was able to download the file within several minutes and took about 10 minutes to install. So as for a minor update I am only expecting the major bugs that was mention above of being fixed. So I don't anticipate nor do I think we will see many if any VO fixes. Look like we have a comment already on one VO fix! That is great news! Please keep them coming of all new things they have notice that are fixed or improved. Plus if any new leaks has sprung!

Michael, Yes, the experience when you keep losing your focus still exists. Really, it doesn't surprises me. Mostly because this is only a minor update. So with that. They have to deal with major problems so all of those tiny issues will not be see in this version. However, from a number of sites I've been reading all suggest a much bigger update of IOS 6.1 will be release before the year end. So that is when I would expect if any VO things will be fixed at all. So we must wait but I am glad to know that this still squashes major bugs and I feel a bit more relieved. Oddly, because I don't seem to suffer any of those nasty bigger bugs that they have fixed. All in all. I still highly recommend people to update just for those bugs that you may not know you had. ;) Now it could be just my imagination but has anyone seem to notice an uptick on of being a bit speedier on the iPhone 4? Could be because I had to reboot the phone perhaps! ;) It is sad to see that the Gameing situation still exist. That I thought at least would have been fixed as I would have think would be something bigger of a deal. Once again that may only relate to VO only and not consider a major isues at this time. So we will have to see if the Mayaans will get us first or the v6.1! lol.

This bug also exists in TuneIn Radio now with their latest update. TuneIn's audio skips when it fades for VoiceOver. Don't know what TuneIn changed to break it, but I'm also hoping this stuff gets fixed.

Here are some news related to the IOS 6.1 beta news coming from other sources. Some are interesting but of course with the NDA we won't know what kind of Voice Over accessibility we can find. I thought some people might be interested in this. You will find these Tweets from my Twitter account as I get more information. The first blurb from C/Net has: "Before you get too excited, the software so far appears to be light on new, user-facing features. Instead, one of the key improvements is new back-end technology that will let developers better use the company's homegrown maps inside their own applications." That can be found here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57543983-37/apple-testing-ios-6.1-with-new-map-search-tools/?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=News-Apple Now over at 9to5Mac they have these following things to say about IOS 6.1: " -Apple is making it as easy as possible to report issues with its new iOS Maps app. As you can see in the image above, Apple changed what used to be a small link into a huge “Report a Problem” button larger than all of the other Map settings…. -In iOS 6.1 beta, Apple has changed the lock screen controls as you can see above. The buttons are new and they are also now spaced out across the entire width of the display." That can be found here on 9to5Mac: http://9to5mac.com/2012/11/01/whats-new-in-ios-6-1-beta-maps-bugs-reporting-lockscreen-music-more/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+9To5Mac-MacAllDay+%289+to+5+Mac+-+Apple+Intelligence%29 So there isn't a lot of news yet on the IOS 6.1 but I'm sure we will certainly hear more in the coming days as they pour through the new IOS 6.1 development code.

Some braille tables like the South African one remain messed up, and it would appear the speech issues found with some languages continue to be present. I also noticed the bug fix with composing a new text message. The VO focus issue seems unchanged.
Hi all, Since the infamous HIMS Braille display issue of 5.1, I'm a bit cautious to upgrade. Has anyone with a HIMS display been brave and tried it? Also, has anyone tried to label elements with 6.0.1? Thanks!

After updating to iOS6.0, we noticed a problem with Wifi dropping streams when playing via Ootunes and TuneIn. After doing a bit of research, we determined that this was an iOS issue, and others reported similar experiences via the Apple support forum. From what we saw of the 6.01 update, we thought this would be fixed. However, it is not. This experience thus far for my husband and I is specific to two specific radio streams (90.9 the Light and Victory FM) from Liberty University. I'm not thinking it's the streams themselves though, because this didn't happen before iOS6.0. I'll be testing other streams this week. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for any feedback!
I have noticed the wi-fi issue with TuneIn Radio, though I had this issue in iOS5 as well. I had never thought of it as an iOS issue before. Luckilly I am on an unlimited data plan, so I just use the 3G for radio streaming. I haven't noticed any fixes to VoiceOver bugs, but I wouldn't necessarilly expect to until 6.1 arrives.
While I am very appreciative to Apple for all of their work with Voiceover and accessibility, I have to admit I am very disappointed with their lack of any improvements to Voiceover in IOS and OS updates. I have had a dialogue going with Apple Accessibility, and I have to admit I can only hear so many times, we are aware of the issue, and are working on it, but can't say when it will be fixed. I keep getting IOS and OS updates with no fixes that I have noticed. I have had a lot more issues with Mountain Lion than IOS. My biggest being when working with Numbers, an APple program that out of nowhere will just stop working with VO. Just want to chime in and get my frustration off my chest.

I have successfully pared my iPhone running 6.0.1 with the braille sense onhand, braille edge, focus 40 blue, and refreshabraille. SO, I think it is probably safe to assume they didn't break braille support this time.

I am very excited to report that I have successfully labeled an unlabeled button. The label held even after killing the app and reopening it. Looks like 6.01 fixed that bug. Yay!!

Has anyone heard if 6.01 &/or 6.1 will be addressing several Siri issues. These include the "swoosh" sound to alert when a text or email has been sent. Also Siri seems to type the word period, cmma, etc. instead of placing this punctuation in the message. Also it seems as though Siri's understanding of what is being said to or asked of "it" has diminished after the IOS6 update. It takes several tries to get Siri to understand what I am saying. I'm hoping Apple is addressing these & any other Siri issues. If it's not too late I suggest we all keep notifying Apple of these Siri & any other Voice Over issues so they can be addressed in the upcoming IOS6.1 update. As for the issues with Tune In Radio & other apps, wouldn't these have to be forwarded to the developers so they could address & resolve the problems? Has anyone notified the different app developers of the issues? If not it would probably be a good idea to do that so the developers can be aware of these issues. Thanks for reviewing these notes.
Hi Adam. I don't know if I had the problem in iOS6.0, but I am not having the problem of Siri writing the words comma or question mark etc. in iOS6.0.1. It is working as it should for me. I am still not getting the swoosh sounds etc. though, which is annoying. Apart from some names in my contacts, I haven't encountered any new issues with Siri understanding me. I did when I first updated to iOS6 in September, but this turned out to be because Siri had reverted to British English, whereas US English seems to get the best results for an Irish accent. Maybe check that Siri is set to the right language for you? Otherwise I don't know.

I've been running 6.01 for a few days now, and not had any problems with Siri or dictation behaving unexpectedly. It worked consistently from iOS six onwards, and in fact has been steadily improving for me over the past several weeks. I am also learning how to enunciate, and speak in the required cadence to extract the best value from both tools.

hi all, i want to contact apple about the accessibility or lack of in the iPad App Store. can someone please give me the apple accessibility email address? i tried writing to accessibility@apple.com but either i spelt it incorrectly or otherwise it bounced.
I am happy to report that the graphics labeling error is mostly fixed, though still a bit buggy. You still have to refresh several times for all the labels to work properly, and sometimes you still have to retype the labels, but it does seem to work a lot better in 6.01. Now if they could just fix the focus issues…
