I am a blind software engineer from Brisbane, and have recently been working on the first of our solutions.
A quick introduction: We as visually impaired individuals have one binding obstacle: The ability to understand our environment and spaces around us efficiently, and to use that information to help empower our everyday lives.
We have come up with the Macaron, a small hand held device with bluetooth connectivity to a dedicated IOS app which has some core features for measuring distances around us, and which we are extending further with many more modes, such as a unique bread crumbing feature which has an integrated 3D audio engine.
We have taken into account many degrees of visual impairment and have added both haptic feedback modes and the 3D audio feedback modes together to better understand your environment, by up to 8 meters for now, which we are trying to increase without loss of precision.
