Navigating Using The Apple Watch

watchOS and Apple Watch Apps

Hi. I've just purchased the Apple Watch series 1 and I really like it. I listened to David Woodbridge's many podcasts on getting started with the watch and they were all really really useful. However, the podcast on walking a route with the apple watch using Maps was most impressive. However, as yet, I've not managed to get this to work properly. The first walk i did I got it to work but when I did one yesterday it didn't seem to work properly for me. These were routes I knew so it wasn't a big deal but I thought I'd rather master how this works on a familiar route before needing to use it on an unfamiliar one. So, here are my questions.

1. Firstly, how does one go about planning the route? I tried on the watch but struggled to search for or input the street address I wanted to go to. I ended up doing this on my phone.

2. When using maps on the watch, does maps need to be running on your phone with the screen unlocked?

3. When you receive taps to indicate you should turn left or right do they differ? For example, is it 1 tap for left and 2 taps for right, for example? This would then negate the need to actually worry about listening to your phone to find out what direction you need to turn in?

Cheers.

You can set up the route on the phone, Then lock the phone and it should go fine from there.
As for the vibrations, left vibration feels more like a heartbeat whereas the right is just straight taps, if that makes any sense?
Happy navigating!
