Apple Watch 101: A Demonstration of the Watch App on the iPhone After it has Paired with an Apple Watch
By AppleVis, 28 April, 2015
In this episode of his series of podcasts looking at the Apple Watch, David Woodbridge walks us through the features and options available on the Watch App on an iPhone once it has been paired with an Apple Watch.
Hi. I got my Apple Watch series 1 today and updated to OS 3.13. I've been studying like a good little student but I'm having a couple of issues and I don't know if it's me or an OS change. David Woodbridge's podcasts for Apple Watch 101 were clearly done when OS1 was around and are brilliant but here are my issues.
1. The friends button doesn't seem to work on my watch. I press it and it goes to the apps screen or the clock face alternately.
2. I'm struggling with with dictatin messages using Siri. It seems it works but it seems to take ages and I don't here the message sent sound like I do when I physically go into the message app and dictate using the dictate button.
3. Glances just don't seem to exist any more. Have they taken them away? In which case should I just ignore all that stuff?
4. Wierdly and strangely, I text my husband on my watch today while he was out and he's coming through on my phone using his skype name. At the time I didn't even have skype installed? What's that all about?
Thanks in advance and sorry for all the questions.
Hello,
In WatchOS 3, glances are no longer available. When you swipe up on the watch face with 2 fingers, you will be taken to the control center. If you press the side button, you will be taken to the doc which contains the most used apps. You can still use the find my friends app to talk to your friends. Do you have Skype installed on your iPhone? Maybe that's why the Skype name is appearing. Try deleting Skype from your iPhone and see if the name from your contacts will appear in the messages app. Try restarting voice dictation. One feature you might want to be careful of when turning off your Apple Watch is the new emergency sOS. It can accidentally be activated by pressing and holding down the side button for 6 seconds. You can disable this feature by opening up the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, go to general>emergency sOS and turn off hold to auto call. Hope this helps and good luck!
