Voice Over major crash and the problem continues, I need help!!

I didn't do anything to caus it, voice over just stopped working. I tried rebooting the phone a couple of times with no luck. I also did a triple tap on the home button but voice over didn't do anything so I couldn't tell if it was on or off. I went into iTunes and hit the universal buis button. I think that's what it is called. I may have the wrong title but it allows you to check a box and turn Voice Over on. The box was unchecked when I went in there. Once I checked it, voice over came back on. I knew something was wrong when the speech rate was back to the default. None of my router choices for voice over were there except those in the default. So, the crash took away all of my voice over settings. Now here's the difficult part of the story. I have a passlock on the phone meanhing I have to do a password after tapping to unlock the screen. I did the password but the screen did not unlock. At the moment,I have no access to my screen. I didn't do anything to caus it, voice over just stopped working. When I try and unlock the password, I hear the click as I tap the screen but no secondary clicks. the tripple click on the home button to turn voice over off does not work. turning of speech with a 2 finger double tap does turn speech off but not voice over. Thoughts from knowledgable people would be appreciated. I really don't want guess work even though I realize people are trying to help. John Gassman

If I remember right, the default for VoiceOver isn't touch typing. Did you try double tapping on each key when entering your password?

As the comment above mine suggests, you may need to actually find then double tap the numbers for your passcode. This is because, when that little bug comes up and Voiceover gets set back to its defaults, it gets set all the way back to its "you just took the phone out of the box" defaults. Therefore, you need to set touch typing back up if that's what you were using before the crash. To do that, spin the rotor till it says typing and make that touch typing. If that doesn't work at the point where you enter your unlock code, do it the old fasshioned way by finding then double tapping each character in turn till you unlock the phone. Then, go to anywhere where you usually type something and change the setting as described above.

Thanks to both of you who left comments. I read them when I got home from work and shortly before I left work, I had come to that same solution. I used the default typing to tap through the password and then fixed my settings including touch typing. Now everything is fine once again. Nothing was lost except my voice over settings and those only temperarily! If apple products create a log of crashes, I'd be interested to have a tech look at it to see if they can discover what caused the crash. I think I'll write to their accessibility email address to find out if this is possible and if they'd be interested.
