Hello to all,
I've recently purchased a new Series 1 42mm Apple Watch and am loving it more and more. Although I have noticed an odd glitch and am wondering if anyone else has encountered this.
Like most, my default watch face is Minnie Mouse and I have set it up that the watch does not wake up when raising my wrist and does not auto speak. I prefer raising my wrist and pressing on the crown to wake up the watch and have Minni or Mickey read the time. This way, if I only want the taptic time, instead of pressing the crown when I raise my wrist, I simply double tap with one finger.
Now the glitch I am encountering is this, after not using my watch for a while, I sometimes raise my wrist and when either pressing the crown or double tapping it, I get no response from the watch. Sometimes triple clicking the crown to toggle VoiceOver on and off will do the trick and make my watch wake up again, sometimes it takes longer.
Now I am not certain if this is normal behavior or not, I am hoping that I don't have to bring the watch back to the Apple Store as the nearest one is rather far away, although I do have the two year AppleCare, I am hoping that this is just normal behavior and that it is just something I will have to get used to. I am running the latest Watch OS 3.1 as well.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I do try and be cautious not to accidentally bang my wrist on walls or objects, and at times notice when I am either getting up from brushing my dog or when I unknowingly bend my wrist upwards and accidentally press and hold the crown as I do get Siri kicking in. I do hope that this action does not damage the crown? You would think that for the price, Apple would build these things to be able to take a little punishment. I do though try to be cautious as this toy is a rather expensive one too.
Anyways, would appreciate any help or guidance.

Try the following steps: 1…
Try the following steps:
1. Restart both your Apple Watch and the paired iPhone.
2. Restart VoiceOver if necessary.
3. Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch.
4. You will have to set up the Mini Mouse watch face and the taptic time again.
5. Also, send a report to Accessibility@apple.com so that they can fix the glitch you are having with your watch.
6. None of the actions that you are doing can damage the crown. To be more cautious you might want to disable the emergency sOS feature so that if you bend your wrist upwards you are not accidentally activating it. Here's how you do it:
1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
2. Go to general>emergency sOS.
3. If "hold to auto call" is on, double tap to turn it off. This will disable the functionality of pressing and holding the side button for 6 seconds.
4. However, the emergency sOS is still accessible on the power off screen.
Hope this helps and good luck!
I just do a single tap on my wash face to get the time.
Hi,
I have my watch similarly configured as you. Instead of pushing on the crown to have the time read, I simply do a single tap on the face of the watch. That will announce the time, and wake up the screen.
Once the screen is awake, a single press on the Crown will bring up the apps.
I hope this helps!

Flicking the Crown forward
When I want to tell the time instead of pressing the Crown in I just flick it forward. The advantage is that the watch only comes awake for long enough to say the time and then promptly goes back to sleep. The strange thing is that this does not work on my friend's Series 1 watch. I am wondering wether it should be reported as a bug as it is great and works on mySeries 2 42mm watch. Does it work for anyone else?
We'll Just Have To See
Thanks to all for your suggestions and thanks to Fatima for yours as well.
I was already aware and done most of the suggestions, except for unpairing and re-pairing the watch, which I have done last night, so hopefully that will solve the issue. Only time will tell. LOL!
When setting up the watch for the first time, I did indeed disable the SOS auto call feature, as knowing myself, this would definitely be something I would accidentally trigger.
Thanks for the tip of just tapping once, I got used to pressing the crown, never thought of just tapping once. I do love the taptic time as when in meetings, if I'd like to know the time, I can do so without disturbing anyone else.
The funny thing is, when the glitch occurred, it was almost like waking up a laptop running on a battery. After a long while, laptops tend to power off to save battery, which seems to be the way the watch behaves too.
If I can ever figure out what causes the watch to behave that way and can easily reproduce it, I will definitely pass it along to Apple in the hopes that it could be fixd in a future update.
Again, thanks to everyone for your help, it was greatly appreciated!
