Introducing CrocusContact, a new iOS app that enables you to use just your voice to create a Contact

CrocusContact is an new iPhone app which enables iPhone users to just use their voice to quickly create a Contact entry. CrocusContact uses speech-to-text technology to convert what you say into a contact, which you can then tell Siri to dial. CrocusContact uses audio to prompt you for the first name, last name, business name if applicable, and phone number. It then just creates the new contact information, and that's all. Out of respect for your privacy CrocusContact doesn't read any other information on your phone including your existing Contact entries! CrocusContact would rather create a duplicate Contact's entry than go through your existing Contact's entries. CrocusContact is a thin app that puts the power of your voice back into you controlling your iPhone! I created CrocusContact after a relative with low-visibility asked my advice for the suitability of her replacing her flip-type cellphone with an iPhone. We went through and listed all the tasks she wanted her cellphone to do. She was able to accomplish everything by using Siri except to create a contact. After checking new iOS release after new iOS release, I created CrocusContact because I felt bad she still couldn't use Siri to create a contact . . . the only item left on her must have list. Though to Apple's credit they have created an ability for clients of state agencies that provides services to the blind, and handicapped, to download the CrocusContact and no-charge. For the rest of us, CrocusContact is less than a buck (which helps offset the no-charge downloads). Being new to this site I understand that it would be helpful if somebody who downloads the app would add it to the site’s App Directory. We would like to provide CrocusContact to those who are handicapped at no-charge. We believe the best way to do this is to identify administrators at State's vocational schools, and give them instructions on how their student's can download CrocusContact at no-charge.

We have noticed a fair amount of turn over at these schools and are looking to identify single point's of contact at each major institution. I think that the folks who visit AppleVis are more likely to know someone who attends a school we are looking to identify, or who is their advocate. And thus can help us identify the proper person to share this information with. We would like to do this search in an organized way and are now looking for these institutions in state's whose first letter begins with the letters A through F.

If you are the first one to reply to the email address below for a particular state, we will reply back to you and send you two free download codes for CrocusContact. In order to respect the privacy of the email addresses of these administrators please send your response to:

CroccusContactApp (at) gmail (dot) com

Below are two Promo codes that can be used by the first two people who respond to this request at the email address above. I'll post an additional two codes each day if the two people who use that day's original codes post a note indicating they used a code. To redeem the Promo codes open the App Store app on that iOS device, choose the Featured icon at the bottom of the window, navigate all the way to the bottom of that screen, select the Redeem button in the third row from the bottom, follow Apple's instruction and enter either of the following codes:
KMLAHEMKRW76
APYFMME46JYF

Alternately, you can follow Apple's directions for redeeming a "Promo Code".

Hi Peter, I love the idea of this app, and I completely appreciate its targeted audience. But do we need to be told every time that Crocus Contact will ask me some questions and go through the lengthy monologue? Surely after using the app once or twice, this information becomes second nature. Well done on a great concept.

Good morning Sam, Thank you for your comment! The "lengthy monologue" is only heard during the first seven or so times CrocusContact is launched. Apple requested that the user completely understand that CrocusContact can not read any of your contacts. And it can only write a new contact to the Contact's app database. Apple is very strict about the need to advise an iPhone / iPad / iPod users regarding an app's ability to access personal data.

The agreement we came to was to present the disclaimer more than half a dozen times, yet less than a dozen, before CrocusContact begins gathering information to create a contact. Though we weren't offered a choice. I understand and appreciates Apple's corporate view of doing all that can be done to protect an Apple, device, user's personal information from unknown and or inadvertent access.
