Hello,
I was wondering if there were any great accessible bar-code scanning apps and label reading apps. I'm contemplating KNFBReader, but I'm a little weary about the price. 99.99? That seems a bit to high IMO, but this is just my oppinion.
Are there any good, cheaper alternatives that I could use?
Thanks in advance.

Absolutely! Free apps like Be
Absolutely! Free apps like Be My Eyes and CamFind do a great job in identifying products. Each has a different function, though: While CamFind displays the result of the photo, Be My Eyes uses volunteers to help you recognize the item. Therefore, you communicate with them via video and audio. Digit Eyes is another one you might consider, since with an account it gives you access to info about the product. What makes this app stand out is the need to find the bar code, but it does automatically scan the item once your camera is focused appropriately. The app also enables you to mark a particular product through labels that can be purchased from the manufacturer. If you don't like CamFind, you can try TapTapSee (both come from the same company). The only fundimental difference I know that exists between the two is that CamFind allows you to search for places where that item can be sold. Another worth a look can be found in the App Store under the name Recognizer. With Recognizer, you can make a recording of an item based on its bar code. The most advantageous feature of this application is its ability to identify products relatively quickly without the need to relocate the bar code. There are others that are worth considering, but these are just a few. Hope that helps.
Thanks.
Thanks for the info. I will definitely take this into consideration.
Digit Eyes
The best app I have found for your situation is Digit Eyes. It reads the bar code on items, identifies them, and where appropriate and available, displays ingredient and preparation information.
There are faster bar code scanners, and Digit Eyes takes a little practice and patience, but it is an essential part of my iPhone toolkit.
Like anything else, practice
If you use another app called red laser, it might help too. I use anything from digit eyes, red laser orof course I have the ID mate quest. Very expensive, but I admit worth every penny. Not trying to make you spend more money then you want to, the advantage to the stand alone unit is that it's updated almost on time, ever six months with more items added. KNFB reader is better for things like reading your package making sure you don't open the wrong one. I forgot. AT Guys has also a stand alone unit that will read barcodes too. Only problem is that of course it's connected to your computer, not a portable solution. I know you asked about iphone things, I just wanted to give you other ideas in case you ever do think of updating to a thing like that.
Bespecular is good
Hi,
I'd just like to add the app Bespecular to the list of very useful apps. Unlike Be My Eyes, Bespecular doesn't require a real time video connection. You can take multiple images of a product, and then ask or type exactly what question you have concerning that product. I use Bespecular at least once a day, and it is terrific.
Just another option to consider. I also use Digit-Eyes and KNFB reader on a daily basis, but they are not free.
Thanks again for all the input.
I really apreciate your feedback. It really helps me make my choices easier, so I don't accidentally buy something that I don't want or need.
VizWiz
I'm not ture if this one has been added to the recommendations list, but you might try or at least look at VizWiz. I think there's an entry on the AppleVis app directory for iOS. Apps. But yeah, I agree that both KNFBREADER & Amedia Live Reader are way overpriced at $100. In my opinion, developers shouldn't be allowed to charge that much. But since they are, there should be a free trial period to try before you buy. Because I was looking into getting those apps, but after I heard about the price... That was a dealbreaker for me litterally.
