Hello everyone.

As a big fan of CoG and choose your own adventure games I wrote to TMG to see when will their games be accessible on IOS and this was the reply I got.

Hello!

Accessibility for the visually impaired is actually something that we are very interested in providing, and we have been trying to get it built into our various systems since the very beginning.

At the moment we are using the Unity3D game engine which renders the text out to the video card as textures as opposed to using UIKit as the Choice Of Games do. The plus side of this choice is that we have far greater visual quality and flexibility of layout in our apps. The downside however is that we cannot easily use the Voice Over technology that Apple provides and it is technically quite difficulty to make the current games work with Voice Over.

However, we have been working on some new engine technology, and Voice Over compatibility is one of our planned features. Ultimately we hope to get Voice Over support into our newer games perhaps even by the end of this year, but definitely at some point.

Cheers!

I find this good news, even though it does not provide specific dates it does tell us that they are working on it and we can see this in the future.

I've never heard of such games, how ever it is good to know the dev is activally working on accessibility. We'll see how it goes I guess.

Take care all.

This is what I was looking for. I won't splash out now, then, but I'm very pleased to hear they're working on it. I need a bit (more) of escapism in my life and it's hard to believe that some of the earliest games are still among the best.

That's great news, and I really like their attitude. As faras I'm concerned, there can never be too many good accessible games, even if I am asked to spend a few dollars to buy them.
So, how des an ordinary, run-of-the-mill gamer with no app development knowledge whatsoever help to encourage developers to make their games accessible? I would give my eye teeth for an accessible Lord of the Rings or other Tolkien-based game, but I haven't found one yet. How can I help to convince developers that it's worth their time to make those nifty graphics and special effects they took hours creating speak for, what we have to admit is a small segment of the population?

I think there are few things we can do to help.
1: Those who can afford it should buy the game
2: We should try to promote these games as much as we can.
3: The games that are made just for blind users are in my opinion a waste of resources, we need to make the existing games accessible rather making strictly blind user’s games.

Yeah, they really can't. Their games are made with the unity engine, which can't be made to work with Voiceover because of how it sends information to the screen. Lots of games use that engine. Sad, sad times.
