Battery usage with IOS 10

I'm running IOS 10 on a iPhone 6 and since the update my battery consumption seems crazy. Before the update I usually had to charge my phone every night but since the update it's not even lasting the day. Yesterday my phone was only unplugged from roughly 11 AM to 5:30 PM. The only thing I had had open all day was the native messaging app which according to the usage in settings had used 77 % of my battery.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I was hoping to keep my iPhone another year but if the new IOS is draining battery quite like this I may have to upgrade.

Hi Lorna, I'm using an iPhone 6S and haven't noticed my battery running down too quickly. That said, I'll monitor my battery useage now you've mentioned it.

HI Lorna,

I have had this issue, not with this update but with the 9.3.5 update. I had no idea what had happened, and nor did Apple Support. The way I solved it was by resetting all settings, simple as that. Perhaps try that? I have no idea why it resolved the issue, but it did. Restoring from iCloud Backup didn't work, it has to be resetting all settings. Good luck.

Hello there, I had the same experience with iOS10, on my iPhone6Plus. I'm sharing a small solution, which worked in my case. Go to Settings, Jeneral, Reset, and double tap on Reset all settings. Let your Phone restore it's default settings, that will solve your battery issues. Please note: in my case, I had to take help of a sighted person to switch on VoiceOver, but my battery issues are resolved. you may try the other thing, like hard reboot, which didn't work in my case. Hope that helps.

@neel thanks for corroborating my suggestion there, glad it worked for you too. One thing I should have added is the first time i tried reset all settings, it didn't in fact reset all settings. i could tell, because UK Siri female was still talking to me, and Braille Scrreen Input was stil on the rota. A second reset all settings did the trick. Again, I have no idea why. just make sure that when you reset all settings, it resets all settings.

Another thing that can save battery life is removing widgets you don't need as they refresh in the background. To do this go to page one then go down to edit then swipe down on a widget you want to remove you can also add widgets too.

My battery drains much faster since upgrading to ios10. My phone (6s) gets warmer than it used to.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will try the resetting all settings. Sounds like I'm not the only one and this new IOS is just making out old phones work a little bit harder!

I've noticed the battery life on my new iPhone isn't exactly what it should be, either that or i pay way too much attention to it and my expectations are just too damn high, i'm not sure which. If I do though, i'm going to set it up as a brand new iPhone and just re-download all my apps manually so I can see if that keeps the battery life the same or if the iCloud backup is screwing something up. I'll report more when i have a lil more time.
