As many readers may already know, Apple is holding an event on September 7, 2016. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. EDT.

While nothing is known for sure, it is likely that Apple will introduce the iPhone 7 and confirm the release date of iOS 10. Some strong rumors are suggesting that we will also hear news about the second generation Apple Watch. Whether this event will bring news of a MacBook refresh is currently less certain, with recent rumors suggesting that this will come at a dedicated event later this Fall. For all of the specifics, 9to5mac has a round-up of what to expect.

As is traditional for us, we'll be covering Apple's September 7 event here on AppleVis. We'll be posting all of the major news and announcements from the event on the @AppleVis Twitter account, as well as updating this page with a live blog of the keynote. Shortly after the event, Alex Hall will also be posting a round-up and analysis of the announcements.

For those wishing to watch the event in real time, Apple will live stream the keynote on its website at www.apple.com/live, as well as on the Apple TV. Apple's live stream requires an iOS device running iOS 7 or later; a Mac running OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5 or later; or Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. For users of the Fourth-Generation Apple TV, Apple offers an 'Apple Events' app that users will need to download in order to watch on that device.

One thing which I am particularly looking forward to, like I mentioned on here at least once before, is Siri and I'm kind of hoping that we will hear more details of its implementation on the Mac next week. But if not, I won't grumble. I don't want to get on my soap box about this, but yesterday morning I got to thinking that Siri could possibly help out with my independent outdoor travel skills. Only time will tell though on that one.

I am looking forward to the event as well. Does anyone know if the apple watch (second generation) needs to be paired with an iPhone?

By Michael on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I'm really looking forward to hearing about whether Apple will ditch the headphone jack in the next iPhone. That will be of particular interest to a lot of people, myself included.

By JeffB on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

This will be my first time watching the event. Is it easy to find the button or link to start the feed?

By Holger Fiallo on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Can not wait for the iOS 10 and OK with iPhone 7.

By Michael on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

The link will be easy to find. You wil just go onto Apple's website and click on the event link at 10:00 Pacific Time, and if you're using an iOS device, there will be a big play button on the center of the screen.

By JeffB on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Thanks can't wait!

By Amir on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

i hope apple will put eloquence text to speech to the ios 10 new features.

By Toonhead on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Hi. Just so people don't have to search for it, the reason why Elloquence won't be available in iOS is that Apple has a long-standing contract with Nuance, makers of the popular vocalizer synthesizers we all know like Samantha, Tom, Daniel, Karen, etc. Eloquence, while being a fantastic synthesizer, is about 15 years old, and is considered vintage. If you truly want Elloquence on your tablet or phone, Android is your best bet. and that's not a knock on Apple or anyone here, it's just how it is. So if that's important to you, that's what to do. iOS 10 will introduce many new voices not available in iOS., but they're all going to be Nuance Vocalizer ones, along with Fred, which is one of the voices available on mac computers as well.

By Chris on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

how much data does the official Apple stream use? I will have to stream this from my iPhone using cell data. Should I just stream from the MP3 link provided by the last poster?

By Justin on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

probably wouldn't hurt to stream it from the MP3s. I'd say if you can't use WiFi, then just read the apples blog post later on in the day.

By Saqib on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Hi. Which Apple TV app do I need as I'm going to catch up with the event later on tonight as I have other sporting engagements today and can't make the live streaming event. I'm going to mute all Apple related Twitter accounts as I don't want to read about the event before I watch the actual event on Apple Tv. I did the same with WWDC as I watched it the following day.

By alex wallis on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

for those who want to listen on windows or just get an audio only stream, Andre Louis has posted a link which he will stream the audio of the event from.
I have always found his stream very reliable and unlike other streams there won't be any annoying comment over the top.
I have never actually been able to get apple streams to play successfully in safari anyway for some reason and I don't want to waste time during a stream trying to reset settings and do other stuff when there is a perfectly good windows stream available which will use less data than the video version apple will be streaming.
the link to andre's stream when the event begins will be
http://3.onj.me:8000/apple.m3u
this is a link to an m3u file which will play in winamp etc.

No way will you ever see Eloquence anywhere else. I could go into details, but suffice it to say the challenges are both legal and technical, and it's not worth it for Nuance to bother when they have far better voices (of their own design and not encumbered with legal crap) that they can license.
Seriously, everyone. Eloquence's day is past. Let it die in peace.

By sockhopsinger on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Subject line says it all. 'nuff said.

By Jake on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

But I have better things to do than to argue with you. Suffice it to say that JAWS' license has already covered it, so you're at no risk of revocation until the code doesn't work. But the fact that you say something like this followed by "'nuff said" tells me you do not actually care one whit about the situation, so I won't bother any further.

By sockhopsinger on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Actually, I wasn't trying to argue with you. My point is that FS appears to be happy to keep using the same old synthesizer rather than trying to update or improve anything.

By JeffB on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

The real issue is that Mario is coming to IOS and again we are going to be left out because it won't be Vo friendly... It is lame that they are going with a analog lightning adapter which means you can't charge your phone and listen through headphones unless they are whireless since whireless charging did not make it in this update. That I am disappointed about quite a bit but man do I really want to play Mario!

By Daniel Angus M… on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

apple also said in this event when talking about education, that the iWork suite is going to be updated to support people calaberating on docunents, in pages, slides in Keynote, and spredsheets in Numbers. no one has mentioned this yet on this live blog page.

By Hadi on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I'm excited for airpods, as a person who's interested in technology, I really like to have a pare!

By Mitchell on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

After pondering over the lightning adapter change, I do actually think that sound quality will get better (I hope this is the case). Also, I personally don't care for listening to music while charging my phone.
We need to think of a way to get the Super Mario Run accessible. Maybe through a petition, or maybe something else.

By Daniel Angus M… on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

apple announced a brand new armaz apple watch, to complament their other siries 2 apple watch offerings. they also talked about exclusive episodes of Carpool Kariokey premeering on apple music in 2017.

By Daniel Angus M… on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

pokemon go is going to be in WatchOS 3 for the apple watch. Neotech demoed it. I wonder ifgg the game will nbe finally made accessible. we should a patition or something, for maro go and pokemon go to be accessible.

By Chris on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Let me just start by saying that these are my opinions as they currently stand. I think replacing an open wired connector with a proprietary one is a really bad idea. I agree with the other poster who asked the question about charging and using headphones at the same time. What does this mean for people that connect their phones to mixers to record directly? I know we have this audio adapter, but what if you need to charge your device while using it with a mixer or something like that? What about this supposedly new and better EarPods thing? Have the latency and microphone issues been corrected? I hate how all of this is so vague. I refuse to use wireless headphones, (especially ones that use a proprietary connection) with my phone. How do I know they won't switch to awful 8 KHZ mono audio when I'm talking to someone using Skype or using the microphone?

I'm sorry if this came off as kind of harsh. Maybe I just need to step back and take a breath. I guess we'll see what happens. I'm disappointed with most of these announcements. It seems like the Apple Watch got a minor processor and GPS upgrade. What about the storage? Will it finally have enough storage to truly become an independent product of its own? I fear the answer is still no.

By JeffB on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I agree that going 100% whireless isn't the way to go. Sometimes you do need to charge and listen to things at the same time and I think that this was poorly thought out. I agree that we need to patition to get Mario and Pokemon accessible!

By Ekaj on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I downloaded and listened to today's event via the link provided by Andre Louis, and first off I want to thank the person who posted that link. Now onto the event itself. I agree with those of you who say that going all wireless is probably a mistake. Granted I'm only a Mac user at least for the time being, but I think I'd be a bit confused by just switching to all wireless all the time. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this is received. It occurred to me while listening to today's event, that I need to sign up for my free trial of Apple Music. It sounds pretty cool, pun totally intended. I enjoyed the performance by Sia at the end. I was honestly hoping for some news about OS Sierra, but I guess today was only about i-devices. I'm still rather new to this stuff so I guess this was just wishful thinking on my part. But I'm not gonna whine and complain. After all, I like surprises; positive ones that is.

By Joe on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I agree I think there should be a way to charge your phone while listening to music that part is kind of weird. However I think the people who one Mario to be accessible or dreaming. I'm just not sure how they can make the game fully functional using voice over. Yo have different desires I would like my washer to talk to me so I know what setting it's on because I always forget what the bump dots mean. But I digress

By Toonhead on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I'm really having trouble with this whole wireless thing as well. The only way I can see it working is that people would all have to purchase battery cases and charge their iPhones while using legacy headphones. Battery cases ain't exactly cheap, so there is that to consider. Apple wants you to be completely locked into their system. Also, how will this effect people who use hearing aids? So many unanswered questions. I believe how Apple should've done this is offered one model of the iPhone 7 that was wireless, but offered another model that kept the headphone jack. I really can't see a lot of people going for this, but then again millions will, so Apple won't have any reason to reverse coarse, and return the headphone jack. I understand the whole "think different" thing, but whose really going to be able to truly enjoy stereo speakers on an iPhone? Hey, time will tell. We may all be proven wrong. I hope I am but this is a tough one.

I'm with you. Unless I've missed something we either have to put up with being unable to charge and listen at the same time or we fork out for very expensive wireless headphones. So much for all those lovely portable phone chargers that are around now. I'll be sticking with the iPhone SE thanks. :-)

On a positive note though it does mean that using headphones while out and about say with blindsquare or something will be a heck of a lot tidier. I don't mind the apple headphones per say but having to faff around with them and having 1 wire potentially hanging down while using the Sat Nav software did used to drive me nuts and walking around qwith 2 earbuds in just to me isn't safe.

By Patrick Hurst on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I must agree with all the comments on going completely wireless and listening to music while charging the device. Time will have to tell if this was a good and above all user-practicable solution.
Another element that struck me during the presentation that has not yet been discussed here is the introduction of haptics; so as a blind user, I'm really curious about the way the new "virtual" Home-button will feel like. And if Apple has made it possible to reproduce tactile elements on the screen, because they also mentionned it as part of their spectacular video-game presentation towards the end, shouldn't it then be possible to use that haptics technology in other Apps (e.g. maps in BlindSquare, etc.) and wouldn't it then be possible to reproduce Braille on the screen? If yes, this could become a real game-changer as we could also have refreshable Braille on a surface (e.g. on future iPads) which would mean expensive one-line-only Braille devices would be things past.

By alex wallis on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

charging and listening as others have said is my issue. I certainly don't plan to go wireless, 5 hours is quite pathetic for apples air pods, given that there are expensive wireless ear phones on the market that offer over 20 hours for a single charge, I would eat 5 hours for breakfast on a long coach journey or long flight. they said you can charge from the air pod case, well OK but if you do that that either means you won't be able to charge them and listen at the same time or it means you will have wires and a case attached to these ear pods, either way not great for listening experience. plus of course as I understand it with any wireless product there are always delays when using it with VoiceOver, no thank you I will be steering well clear of apples air pods.
as for the hole Mario and pokermon game sorry guys think you will have to give up on accessibility for those, I mean do any of you actually know the point of Mario? its a retro archade game where basically you are running through levels jumping over fire and doing other stuff, I think it couldn't be made accessible without basically creating a special version for us, the nature of the Mario game means that VoiceOver wouldn't come into it, you would need a totally new audio game. I don't think its going to be built into devices I think it will simply be an available app if it is built in first thing I will be doing is deleting it as I did with garage band, keynote etc from the 6s plus.
apple goes on about digital audio and better sound quality, digital might be better quality, but as I understand it humans can only hear up to about 20 or 30 kHz making anything above that quite pointless, and remember our hearing is analogue we can't listen to a load of 1's and 0's so digital still has to be converted to analogue by the phone.
what annoys me is apple insisting on packing in all these gimmics like there taptic engine, 3d touch etc, I think I can count on the fingers of one hand the times I have used 3d touch its not a feature I particularly want, think that's a feature they could get rid of in favor of other features such as bigger battery or keeping the headphone jack. and seriously I don't need my phone to vibrate at me for every little action, I will probably be turning off the taptic engine to save power.

By Mitchell on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

There's enough sounds to actually make it accessible. There's a fire sound, and other sounds. Yes, maybe they do have to make
aNother version for us, but accessibility is definitely not out of the question.

By burak on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Hello,
I really wonder how the iPhone7 will react when you press the virtiual home button if you turn it off. Can someone describe it for me when they buy?

By Jake on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I have to say, I'm far more excited about iOS 10 than I am about the new iPhone. There's nothing in this new iPhone 7 that makes me want to upgrade from my 6S Plus. Sure, it's a little nicer, but nothing that really gets me excited. I think we've hit that point where the smartphone market has become the computer market. Evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Anyway, can't wait until the 13th.

By Troy on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

In reply to by Toonhead

Maybe apple will offer something in the future sort of what they did with the IPhone SE that will have a headphone jack. The home button thing is going to be interesting as well. Mac roomers said the new home button has gotten bad reviews so far. Most complaints I've heard from friends regarding the headphone jack issue is that they will no longer be able to listen to books and stuff in private, I don't think that's the case.

By Lysette Chaproniere on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I understand the point you, and others, are making about charging and listening, though I guess one possible positive that might come out of it is that it might encourage other companies to make better wireless audio products, since there will be more demand for them. I use wireless headphones, and I don't notice the delay, but I agree with you on the airpods; from the description, it sounds like they don't do anything I'm interested in that other, cheaper products can't do better. I recently bought a bluetooth headset for £60.00 that provides 18 hours of battery life.

I also agree about gimmicks; I've never got the point of 3d touch, although I've never used it as I have an iPhone 6, which doesn't support it. Gimmicks come into the software updates, too, like all the changes to messages. I understand that stuff is primarily visual, and so not likely to be of much benefit to us, but still, I imagine some sighted users would feel the same way. Do we really need things like invisible ink? And I'd imagine that unexpectedly being sent a full screen animation could be quite annoying. We don't have to use features we don't want, but I hope their development hasn't got in the way of the development of genuinely useful, innovative features. And I hope there will be a way of switching to the old way of unlocking the phone if I don't like the new way.

On balance, though, I'm really looking forward to iOS 10, especially the voiceover updates, but I won't be upgrading my iPhone until this time next year unless something goes drastically wrong with the one I have now.

As I see it, there are still easy options for private listening:
1. The included at no cost Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter gives your headphone jack back.
2. Lightning earpods that come with the new iPhone, or any other Lightning-based headphones of which there are quite a few.
3. Bluetooth headsets.
Looks like our options haven't really changed all that much.

By Joe on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

The question I would have is did Nintendo make that Windows game accessible? Probably not you all act like Apple is making the Mario game which they are not. That is Nintendo so therefore your beef which should be with Nintendo. I have a pair of those headphones that are good for 20 hours like someone else said but the cool thing about the Airpod's is that there is no wire between the earbuds so basically the battery is in the tiny your butt itself very difficult to probably make something like that run for 20 hours. My Bose headphones are probably going to be about 10 times the size of the airpod. Also to put it in perspective Sampson Has Bluetooth earbuds that cost $199 and only give you one hour and a half listening. Again before you cut down Apple and their price you should probably understand the product.

By Justin on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Hey Jake. I totally agree with you on the headphone thing. Personally I'm glad they took away the jack. It really is not that big deal if they kept the headphone jack or not. For my needs the EarPods or airpods will work. Sure 5 hours on a charge is low, but the case they come with has it's own battery to recharge them, so it's kind of a win win for me. Plus the charge time for the headphones is apparently a few minutes. We'll just have to wait and see. I know that I'll probably get a lot of criticism on here, but I could care less. It's not a big issue for me. I truly see only two options. Keep your old iPhone or deal with the loss and upgrade to the 7/7 plus. I'm looking forward to stereo speakers for a first.

By Igna Triay on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

Well said. Will the airpods work with iPhone 6S?

By JeffB on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

To each their own I suppose, I'm still really anoied and mad that they took away the headphone jack. I guess if this phone works or not will be a matter of which prefference wins in the end.

By Mitchell on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I don't believe that Nintendo actually made the super Mario audio game on PC.

By DPinWI on Saturday, September 24, 2016 - 22:08

I like the sounds of the new phone, but I am going to keep my iPhone 6 another year. A couple months ago, I thought I had a big crack in my screen. I assumed I would limp the phone along until the 7 was available. After a month or two of this, my wife took my phone out of the otter box, only to find out the crack was one of my guide dog's hairs that had somehow got under the screen protector. The hairs truly get every where. So, one more year for me.

I am closer to an Apple Watch, but still not at the point where i must have one. The upgrade is a good one, but I don't see how the GPS helps if I still want a phone with me when I'm out and about. I like the fitness tracking, but since i can tend to the obsessive, I don't need any more metrics, despite how much I want them. Ha.

Still, that Series one price point is very tempting.

I am not put off by the removal of the headphone jack. I use blue tooth almost exclusively. I use my iPod Touch 6 headphone jack to connect it to a stereo, but this new phone doesn't change that. In fact, I will be interested to hear if the new lightning to headphone adapter sounds better than the DAC in the iPod.

Hi. The Airpods should work with the 6S. I think it uses a bluetooth like system, so you should be able to connect them to your phone/mac/whatever you want as long as it has bluetooth. I could be wrong, as it's not exactly sure how they work.

Do you think that the classical earpods will stop working after iOS 10 update in iDevices with the 3.5 MM adapter such as iPhone 6S and older devices?

I don't think that something like this will happen but cisnerely who knows what kind of craziness is going on Apple's head .. this might be a hhuge stop sign if there is even a possibility.

Can't say I care much about the Airpods myself, as there are way way better Bluetooth headsets and earpieces out there that have great sound and 3 times the battery life.
