Hello all,
Hopefully on Saturday I will be buying my first Mac Computer. I am either going to go with a 13.3 air or 13.3 Macbook Pro. I am deciding between the extra umph the Pro gives verses that 12 hour battery life the air provides. I know I want a 512gig SSD on the unit so I can have boot camp with Windows on it and still have a good amount of storage for each partitian. Well wish me luck on my journey into the world of the Mac.

Regards,

I believe if you are buying a Mac in store, you can only get the MacBook Pro in 512 gigabytes. A 512 gigabyte MacBook Air can be bought as a customization from the Apple online store or other retailers.

For what it's worth, I've never had any complaints about the battery life on my Pro. Granted I'm not using it away from power all day long or anything, but still, it does very well. Welcome to the wild world of Mac - I hope the move is as good for you as it's been for me!

Ditto from me. I actually got lucky, for 3 reasons. First off, this is my first Mac computer and it was a Christmas gift from my parents. A sister and I actually rode along with them to the Apple store, and the guys with whom we spoke there let me try out this same Mac before purchasing it. It is a 13-inch MacBook Air, and the battery life on here is excellent especially considering how much I use the thing. I've had it since the end of 2013, and I wouldn't trade it in for anything. I was a bit skeptical though about making the switch from Windows, but I'm so glad I did it. I also have an Apple SuperDrive, which was a Xmas present from my brother-in-law. Besides those 2 things, I got an external hard drive earlier in the year. I couldn't be happier with these 3 gems. I only wish I had more time to just goof off on here. lol! Actually though my MacBook has served me quite well thus far on the job. Yes I do work from home and I'm proud of it. But in the end it all comes down to your expectations, and what you're gonna do on your Mac.

For what it's worth, I love my 13-inch Macbook Air. I got it with 8 gb of ram as a customization, though now I do believe this comes standard. I'm a programmer and IT specialist, and the Air gives all the oomph I'm likely to need. It even runs my Windows and Linux virtual machines without a hiccup, and you just can't beat this battery life in a laptop. Apple rates it for twelve hours, but in practice, I find I actually get a good bit more than that--around 14 hours or so. The Pro does have more power but, unless you're going to be doing a lot of video editing or need the retina screen for clarity, I'd go with the Air which is the fastest laptop I've ever owned. If you like the battery life but want a bit more punch, you can do a built to order with a Core I7 processor instead of an I5. I didn't do this myself however.
