Hi All, I have a problem with creating audiobooks using iTunes. I'm using Windows 7 home 64bit and iTunes 12.4.1. However, not tried to create a book for some while so maybe not just this iTunes version. Basically I can select the tracks I want to convert. I can then go to get info and options. Normally there you have a dropdown to change from music to potcast audiobook etc. However, as soon as I select audiobook and hit enter iTunes crashes everytime. I have to stop it using task manager. Simply cannot get further. I've uninstalled iTunes with no luck. So does anyone have this issue? or found a way round it or any idea how I can creat audiobooks to transfer onto my iPhone? Any help much appreciated as this is very frustrating and I can find nothing at all on Google re this so it maybe unique to me for some reason.

What screen reader are you using? Can you try another one? I've seen JAWS do this a lot back when I was a Windows user, however that was some time ago so my knowledge may be dated.

Hi, Thanks for that. I was using JAWS V15. So I've just tried this with NVDA and it appears to be working fine. Very strange why JAWS would do that. Thanks anyway it would seem all sorted. I may mention this to Freedomscientific as there is obviously a bug in JAWS somewhere.

I'm a full-time NVDA user, on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC, and, even though I've never tried to create audiobooks in iTunes, the last couple of iTunes versions also crash on me from time to time. Therefore JAWS might not necessarily be to blame for your crashing problem. We're not the only ones who have noticed that iTunes for Windows can randomly crash, I've seen several reports about this. Glad you were able to create audiobooks in iTunes with NVDA, though!

It's just one of many JAWS bugs. It's why I use NVDA at work now, though they do seem to be picking up again with the later builds of JAWS 17 it's still not as stable as I need it to be. Honestly I like NVDA better anyway since it can read things JAWS just can't, but I digress... Glad to hear that it worked.

Well, iTunes on Windows is a crash-prone buggy pile of... well, fill in the blanks here. In this case though it seems JAWS was the trouble, and I remembered seeing something specifically relating to dialogs closing causing a crash. But yeah, iTunes is a bloated, unresponsive, unstable mess. Even on OS X the best I can say is that it's a little less crappy. Just fyi, it's crappy for fully visual users too, not just us.
If Apple announced that they were getting rid of the iTunes program entirely and replacing it with something else, I'd be the first cheering in sheer joy! Accessibility is really the *least* of iTunes' problems where software is concerned.
