In my previous post when I was talking about my notification problems, I forgot to mention that I am using an iPhone 5s. I am also running the latest iOS 9.3. I have recently re-installed this app. When I first installed it a few months ago I was able to except the notification dialogue with no problems. This problem has only occurred after I deleted the app and tried to reinstall it. It is very frustrating not to be able to receive notifications from this app!

By KE7ZUM on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

How odd. I wonder if it already excepted your yes as I think the info is still in iCloud. It could also be a software issue with the phone itself and not the app. I would leave a voice message with the developers via the help menu and see if they can try and solve the issue.

Good luck.

Hi @Earle! Thanks so much for providing us with such detailed feedback :) I have told Blixt from the Roger team about this, and he will definitely be looking into this. He mentioned that a few other VoiceOver users have experienced this issue as well, so it might be a VoiceOver related issue. We will try to get it fixed in the next version. Do you mind sharing your Roger username, so that we can look into your case? :)

It would be great if you could join us a beta tester, as new versions are usually pushed out to our beta community first :) You can sign up at https://rogertalk.com/beta.

By Earle on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

My Roger username is rowdyamerican. I will go and sign up for the beta now. I'd be willing to help any way I can. I've been involved in several betas in the past.

By Ka Yat Li on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

Glad that this is being looked into. I was suggesting customization of sounds by choosing what's on the phone and assigning it to a group or individual like the way Heytell does it. I' just signed up to beta test this so I'm definitely looking forward to new features and providing more feedback.

By Chris on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

In the latest update, it says this app connects to the Amazon Echo? What does this mean?

Hi @Earle! Thanks for joining us as a beta tester :) Blixt has pushed out a fix for the issue you were facing, and I just added you as a beta tester so you can download the latest beta version now to try it out :)

Let me know if it works!!

Hi @Ka_Yat_Li! Sorry I must have missed your previous comment. First of all, thanks for joining us as a beta tester :) Also, we currently do not support that feature but it could be a future development!! It's great that you're with us as a beta tester now, looking forward to working with you!!

Hi @Chris_Wright and thanks for that question :) You are able to talk to Alexa from Amazon Echo via Roger, by adding her as a contact from the add people section. She is also listed under the "Suggested" section in people :) When you first talk to her, we will guide you along in connecting your Amazon account from within Roger, so that she will reply you.

Hi,
This app is fantastic. I was hesitant to try it out being that there are so many different apps out there, but man roger blows me away. The audio quality is far superior then facetime. Great job on the accessibility. If anyone wants to talk to me, you can roger me at:
rogertalk.com/k8tvv
Keep up the awesome work.

By Chris on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

Hello,

I don't get the Echo thing. How do you talk to Alexa? Is it basically giving Alexa commands from Roger?

I would also like to know more about contacts. Does your contact list sync in your account? How do you remove contacts? If I double tap and hold on a contact, I only get the option to hide the contact.

Hi Jeff,

Thank you so much for that!! :)

We place really emphasis on our audio quality and we're so glad that you like it :) Hope you continue to enjoy using Roger, and let us know if you have any feedback!!

Also, you can find the rest of the Roger team at Ricardo, Blixt, Miles, Shreyas, Pedro on Roger :)

Hi @Chris_Wright!

Alexa is the smart virtual assistant introduced by Amazon for its Amazon Echo. So when you speak to Alexa, you are able to ask her any question such as "How is the weather like in New York today?" :)

With regards to the question on contacts, your contact list will be synched to Roger as well. Right now, you are able to remove your contacts from your home screen by hiding it, which will reappear when a new message is received. Would you like it to work otherwise? :)

By Lisa on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

Hello all,
This app sounds very interesting. A couple of questions though, do I have to already know people using this app? In other words, how would I find people to talk too if I don't know anyone using this app? I would also like to say, thank you for making your app Voice Over accessible!

By KE7ZUM on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

To find people you don't know I guess envite your contacts. They will be able to hear the message and then get the app to respond. Also put your username out there on twitter, facebook, etc. I have my username separate from my email that I put on there so for example my roger link is http://rogertalk.com/ke7zum

hope that helps a bit.

By jcdjmac (not verified) on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

hey guys please post a link with your usernames so that I could add you all apples users to my roger contact list thanks.

By Earle on Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 15:15

I'm glad to be a part of the beta team for this app. The latest beta has fixed my notifications problem. I've finally been able to enable notifications on my iPhone. Looking forward to future betas.

Quick question on the public release I updated yesterday and notice that it now takes 2 taps to start the conversation. Can the button to start a conversation be easier to find as right now it's either after the suggested result I type in or above the keyboard some ware. Also is their documentation on how to use the new features in yesterday's update? For example how do I use the broadcast and facebook messenger things. And how exactly does the voicemail thing work?

Blessings and happy Saturday

Hi @KE7ZUM!

We are currently working on making it a lot easier to search for Contacts on voiceover this weekend, and also an update to that screen which will make the button easier to find :)

Broadcast is a new way to allow you to send the same message to multiple contacts (do not have to form a group) at once. This means you can record a message, and then a new screen will appear, whereby you can select multiple contacts to send your message to.

In the case of Facebook Messenger, you are able to speak to your friends on Facebook through Roger itself. All you have to do is select Messenger from the add people section and record a message and then it will bring you to Facebook Messenger to select the friends on Facebook that you want to send the message to.

For Voicemail, it’s a very early test, but what it does is you get your voicemail inside of Roger. So if someone calls you and you don’t pick up, they get to record something and it appears in Roger, under their name. And then you can respond in Roger.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Ah, it's too bad the greeting contact now does the same thing. I was using that to do an intro, or an I'm out message so those that talk to me on roger can know when I'm out and when I hopefully will come back from the meeting or what not. Does that feature still exist? Or will it come back?

When I typed and searched for greeting and started the conversation, it said broadcast. So not sure if that was the same thing or not. Lol!

When looking at the broadcast thing I don't see a way to select contacts. I see a start conversation 1 thing. I don't see a next or what not. I'll keep playing with it.

By the way what if the contact is not on roger but calls your phone and leaves a voicemail anyway. Will you be able to still respond to them via roger even if they don't have the app? What if they call from a lanline etc. I don't want to accidently tern clients off from calling me.

Hello nice people,

I just installed roger, but I can see two contacts by default. But I dono how to add people either. My roger name is raajan. Someone help me?

Take care.

Raajan.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

You are using it right. What's going on is no one on your contacts is using the app hence no contacts. Try speaking to someone in your contacts list and they will get a link to listen and download the app.

By jcdjmac (not verified) on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

hey guys, any other roger users to talk too? please post your roger names below. thanks.

Hi @KE7ZUM!

We are currently still experimenting with the Broadcast feature that you tried :) We are figuring a way to be able to better set a greeting :)

To send out the same message to multiple contacts at once, you can record a message at the home page and a new screen will pop up, whereby you can select multiple contacts at once.

With regards to the Voicemail feature, you are still able to reply them through Roger and they will be able to receive it even if they do not have Roger. Except, landlines won’t be able to log in with an SMS to that number so they’d need to log in with the phone call option

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Hmm. The voicemail feature might be useful when I travel for a business conference internationally in a few years. Cool. Are there instructions to disable it? I mean once I get back home. Lol! Or will I get those when the feature is turned on?

By Lisa on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Hello all,
I have just started using Roger, and I am figuring out how things work. My roger username is Lisa1 I would like to make new friends, and have people to talk too. Thank you.

let me know that you found me through this forum on apple vis. thanks.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

I can't get the broadcast feature to work. Here are the steps I take

  1. Tap my name.
  2. Tap add contacts
  3. tap broadcast
  4. Tap start conversation.
  5. Tap the mic and speak.

After this a thing should come up where I choose who to send this to. This doesn't work on my end. No list shows up as far as I can see. Any advice her?

By jcdjmac (not verified) on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

@ke7zum you did it wrong. you need to: 1. tap on your name. 2. tap on the microphone and speek. 3. dubble tap the mic when finished. a screen will popup which will let you select a contact. select the contacts then tap send. hope this helps.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Odd. Then what is the broadcast contact doing in there, or is that now the greeting thing? I thought I followed the instructions the dev gave me over rogher but i probably misunderstood them. Yeah probably a picnic error again. Lol!

By jcdjmac (not verified) on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

@ke7zum not sure why, but you probably made an arror.

By Lisa on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Is there a way to listen to your own messages that you record? Some people are able to do this with something in there contacts called Roger Bot. I don't have this in my contacts, in stead I have something called Alexa, which I have no need for. How can I get rid of Alexa, and replace it with the Roger Bot?

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Try searching for it. Rogerbot as one word. You cannot use this to listen to your own messages in other conversations but I do use this when out so I know if I have a good signal or what not.

Hi @KE7ZUM,

Sorry for the late reply, and I hope you've been enjoying the new features!! We just pushed out a new iOS version, with many new changes to Broadcast :) Do check it out and let me know what you think about it!!

Hi @Lisa,

You are able to remove Alexa from your home screen by long pressing on her icon and selecting "Hide conversation". Likewise, as mentioned by @KE7ZUM, type in "Rogerbot" to make him appear.

Also, if you want to talk to yourself, you can do so by just typing in your own username in the add people section, and just record a message for yourself :)

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Nice. I updated last week, but will check it out.. Thanks for such a wonderful app. Is broadcast used the same way I've been using it in the version I'm using now? Oh boy that came out wrong. Lol!

By Lisa on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Hello,
Over all I am enjoying this app, but I can't use it very much anymore. It is seriously draining my battery a lot. I always remove it from the app switcher when I'm not using the app, but that really doesn't help. I have an iPhone 6, and the only other kind of apps that even come close to using this much battery power is my GPS apps. That is to be expected from them though. I hope this battery issue can be resolved, so that I can use this app a lot more. Thank you.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Yep I told the devs about it and they want to fix the problem as well. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

By Earle on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

As my subject line states, I am not having the battery drainage issue that some others are having. That might possibly be because of the fact that I am running a beta version though. I'm not sure. Although even when I was running the regular builds I didn't have a battery draining problem either.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

One suggestion I've been hashing out with the devs is the ability to gain a better contact manager. Fornow when you hide a contact it disappears from your recents list and you have to find them again. I misuderstood how that feature works, so I'm getting this out there for those of us who have already hidden contacts. I hope this helps someone. And any suggestions would be welcome.

By Roger on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Hi @KE7ZUM,

That's right! When you long press on a contact's avatar and select "Hide Conversation", the avatar of that contact/ conversation will be removed from the home screen, as well as in your "Suggested" list :)

By Roger on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 - 15:15

Good news! You can now play and pause your conversations in the latest Android build. Its not on iOS yet, but we're working on it! :)

If you have friends using Android phones, or if you have an Android phone yourself, then do try this long awaited out and we will love to get feedback on this :)

I think having a switch to turn listening your messages on or off is a good idea that way everyone is happy.
