Description of App

What if you could live your life over again?

In this text-based interactive fiction, you choose what happens next. It's in the style of pick-a-path gamebooks, but with over a thousand multiple-choice questions, it's much longer and deeper than traditional gamebooks. Alter Ego starts at birth and ends at death, including two substantially different versions, depending on whether you choose to be male or female.

Will you grow up to be confident and happy? Will you fight with bullies, or befriend them? Will you find a date to the senior prom? Will you marry and have kids, or start your own business and become a millionaire? The choice is yours.

This game will change your life.

I bought this game based on the entry on this site plus the App Store reviews. I figured that for five dollars it better be worth it, and boy is it ever. I did find out afterword that you can try the game out on the web site, where it lets you play a little way through for free, though the app must be purchased in full. It's 220,000 words of multiple endings and scenarios. With most games, I play and enjoy them for a little while, but then don't come back to them. I think it's the realistic nature of this game that keeps me playing. Take a rest, flex those fingers, and be sure to move around, if you find that several hours have gone by while playing this game. My hands are tired now, but I will continue later with game play.

This is one of my favorite and most played games on my phone, I was hesitant at first to buy it because of the negative app store reviews, but I am glad I did

I just got this game and now trying it out. I was hesitant to get it because of the negative reviews also but I hope that I like it.

I don't thinkthe views were negative because its a text game. I think that when they were playing it the choices they made they didn't like it and if I remember, I red that someone wrote the developer about it and said that they weren't open minded.

has anyone tried to have a child in this game? because everytime I click on it I can't have any or I can't adopt any. I just restarted the game to see if anything would change when I reach that stage. and some more questions if anyone could help, how do I get to see how much cash I have remaining and all the gifts that I got for my wedding? Thanks for any help

By Paige on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 - 18:11

That's weird, I can get kids, although sometimes it takes a few tries. About the money and wedding gifts your money and important valuable items are listed at the bottom of your stats screen

By Ornella on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 - 18:11

I played again and I only got one kid. I saw what I bought and owned but I didn't see the wedding presents. I may play again later. And I don't understand why all or most of the guys are jerks.

By Paige on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 - 18:11

Usually the only wedding gifts you get our money

By Ornella on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 - 18:11

its still fun to play. but I think the developer made a mistake in one of the life event I think it was family it was stated that my mom died of cancer but when I had a son I was able to play the family tab and like my mom was alive again. And they should fix it because there are so many tabs with the same name like 3 or 4 social tabs. and sometimes I miss an event because I forget.

Hi, I absolutely love this game and am wondering if there are other life sim games?

By Lily on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 - 18:11

Hi. I'm trying to decide if I should purchase this game. Can you choose to be a different gender each time you start a new game or are you trapped being one gender by your first choice?

When you start a new game of Alter Ego, it will ask you if you want to be male or female, so you are allowed to switch genders when you start the game.

Thanks for the info. This game is totally worth the 7 dollars I spent on it.

By Ornella on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 - 18:11

Wow $7.00? The price went up. When I bought that game it was $5.00.

I am usually not a huge text based game player, but do occasionally like to play some from time to time. Bought this one after hearing the comments here and I do like it very much. I've already gone through one life span and have died in my late 60s from playing baseball with an elderly team. Wow, what a way to go, trying to catch a pop fly. It is definitely worth the price tag.

Yes. It was 7 dollars when I bought it, although that could just be the Canadian price with inflation.

Hi all I know that this is an old app, but I just downloaded it, and I can't figure out how to complete college, or get a job as a layer. Can anyone help me with this?

By Tristo on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 - 18:11

Are there any guides? so like what stats and qualifications you need for specific jobs?
