Thinking about signing up for Twitter, but have some questions first

Hi,
A Twitter Account is free and the Twitter App is an accessible starting platform, so just jump on and have a go.
Whatever you are into,be it Apple, News, Tech, Sport, Music, Finance, Weather or whatever just search out people in that field and start following.
I use it as a proxy RSS feed for News, Finance, Apple Info and much more. For example, I seldom refer to the AppleVis home page. Instead, I follow the AppleVis Twitter Accounts and link directly from Twitter to the forum pages that interest me.
Also, there is no better place for breaking news. It is also a great place to ask questions directly of Journalists, Tech Reviewers etc and a direct channel to pass on feedback or appreciation for their work.
Give it a go, and if you don't like it disable your account and chalk it up to experience.

Hi. My fave twitter app is Twitterific, and my second favorite is tweetings. Both are very VoiceOver-friendly and will serve you well. I follow a lot of blindness resources, tech-related accounts, radio-related accounts, and just a lot of really cool people. I've made some great friends with twitter. There are a few Applevis podcasts about twitter, so it might help if you listen to a few of those and if you have more questions, feel free to post them here.

One of the things I like more about Twitter is that it's more linear than Facebook. It doesn't pick what it thinks you want but simply shows you everything based on when it was posted. I follow mainly news, sports, and fitness accounts so i can just go read through it whenever I feel like it.
Facebook for me is more of a social network. I use it to interact with people since I know more real folks there. For me Twitter is just a place to gather up the news.
That being said though. I have found Twitter very helpful when needing to contact some companies. I've often found that reaching out on a website can yield mixed results but if you Tweet at them they sometimes respond much faster.
Twitter also sorts hashtags much easier. It's really easy to follow along with sporting events or really anything with a hashtag and socialize with random folks if you ever feel the need.
As far as the apps go I prefer the Twitter app simply because the newest features come there first and I like new stuff.

Hi. First off there is a captcha and if you need help solving it,I'm very good at those. Second, if you have a Mac go with night owl. I don't what you want to use for Windows, I know you said IOs but twitter tends to have a migrating theme. No I don't want to use it on the computer, six months later, you are. Twitter really is up to you. If you just want to post one tweet, then leave? fine. I use twitteriffic, and the main twitter app. Twitteriffic says voice over support in any update motly, so you're good there. One thing Twitter has direct messages of 1000 characters. That means instead of the 140 whcih i always go over, you can write something to a friend about anything andit sends. Also there are services like twitlonger, where you can write as much as you want. Then a person clicks on a link to read the rest. The main thing with twitter is you'll find a lot of photos put up. It might frustrate you that you don't understand what a photo is because there's no time for a caption in the tweet. Just enjoy whatever you do. If you hate it, no harm done. Of it anyone wants to follow me I'm twitter.com/Irish_storm ;) I use it primarily as a venting ask a questiont ype of thing, read up on a band I follow, that type of thing. If you're into audio tweets, I don't think you can do that anymore. Thank god as i found that pointless and stupid. Just have fun.

Since everyone else pretty much covered what Twitter can be used for, I thought I would dive into the main differences between the iOS Twitter apps. More specifically the native Twitter app, and Twitterrific. I haven't really used any other ones…

First I'll start with the native Twitter app. I used this one for about a year, and I was rather stubborn about trying other ones… But The cons of this app started out weighing the pros. It is totally free, but you do find quite a bit of advertising tweets because of that… Like every 5 tweets there will be an advertisement. You can block the different companies those advertisements belong to, but there are millions of them so I gave up. The interface is pretty user-friendly, but you do have to go through quite a bit of different crap in order to get to a lot of things. For example, if I wanted to open a link that's in a tweet, I would have to double tap on that tweet. That'll open up the tweet page, and then you have to flick write down through all of the content of the tweet until you find the link. Same thing goes for favoriting, retweeting, or blocking a person. Double tap on the tweet, and then flick all the way down until you find those buttons. It just takes a lot of time, and I associate Twitter with being a quick Way to gather information… If I wanted to spend hours on something, I would use Facebook! So these annoyances brought me to download Twitterrific…

Twitterrific is not free… I believe it is $1 to download, and certain features have an additional cost as well. Unfortunately, some of the additional features that require payment are push notifications and add free. You can go for one, or the other, or you can just pay an additional $5 to unlock all of the extra features. But the pros of this app versus the native Twitter app are impeccable! It's so much easier to use, and so much faster to get to the stuff that you want. Like I mentioned about the Twitter app, you have to open the tweet page and then flick through a bunch of information to gain access to favorites, and retweet that tweet. With Twitterrific, you double tap on the tweet and it pops up an alert box with all of that information in it already. It makes it so much easier, and faster, to gain access to what you want to do in regards to that tweet.

With all of that rambling being said… I would recommend starting with the native Twitter app, purely just because it's free. That will give you the opportunity to check Twitter out, follow a couple different people, and just take a look around without investing any money. And if you get into it as much as I have, those little annoyances will start to pick away at you… So then you can go give Twitterrific a try.

You should purchase Tweetings because it has a voiceover rotor if you flick down you can retweet a tweet. I use that as my main app and Twitterrific as my secondary app.

Hi TJ. I hate to be tha barer of bad news, but the reaosn you don't understand the differences in the apps, you just said it yourself. You don't use twitter. You need to sign up, then start picking an app to try. Once done, use it for a month then go with another free app. I don't know anything about tweetings, so I can't speak for that. No one can really give you recommendations because you're still not signed up with twitter,so you don't know what works for you might drive soeone else to not use twitteriffic or tweetings or twitter. Oh there's also a way to text to I thnk the number is 4044004 or something like that, you can text mention, follow things like that. All this hinges on you signing up first. we can't help until we find out what you like dislike about twitter, to provide the best experience.

First off, I definitely prefer Twitter over Facebook any day, although it seems the accessibility team at Facebook has made some improvements and it now works okay with VoiceOver. But I am frequently on Twitter. In addition to my personal account I help run the account for my job. I mainly use Easy Chirp, but back when I was still in Windows I also used a very good client called The Qube. One of the advantages for me with The Qube--aside from the fact that it was and might still be free--was that I could have both Twitter accounts open at once. Switching between them only required a simple command. But as far as I know The Qube is only available for Windows. Now to Easy Chirp, which I mentioned at the beginning of this comment. It is a web-based Twitter client, and I've found it to work great in Windows and on the Mac. It is very accessible, and the devs are responsive to user feedback and suggestions although it does seem that their resources are rather limited at this time. Another advantage with Easy Chirp is the choice of URL shorteners, although at present this feature isn't working. You of course have to be signed up with Twitter on their main site prior to using either of these though. Easy Chirp is at http://www.easychirp.com and is free.

Is tweeting still being developed?
I was reading some reviews on the App Store earlier, and some people are saying it no longer works, and it hasn’t been updated in at least 3 months.

Just a quick note on the native Twitter app, from your main time line if you swipe up/down you get actions such as like, retweet and share without having to open the tweet.
Definitely saves time.
