Hello: I am relatively new to the Mac and have a Macbook Air running os10.7. I was wondering how I would go about saving mp3 files in Safari? Is this possible; at the moment I get the opportunity to download but this doesn't seem to save the file. I can't find any controls to save or specify a location. Also can anyone recommend a good way to convert and save audio streamed from you-tube. Thanks.

Hello. I have the same questions myself. In terms of mp3 sometimes you can use VO shift m and that gives you a context menu to where you can save the mp3.. Sometimes this works. I wished you could get that stupid peace of crap quicktime to stop playing mp3 files every time I click them. That would be really nice. I don't know of any youtube to mp3 converters. BTW VO is the voiceover keys. that is control option used together.

Hi, The saving mp3 question is a Safari mystery to me as well; sometimes there is a direct download link and other times I am wondering how to download instead of stream. I think it depends on the site or type of link or something, but am not sure. What I am sure of is how to put iTunes and QuickTime in their places when it comes to dealing with your files. Here's how to change what app opens what type of file: 1. Navigate to the type of file you want to change in your finder. This could be a regular mp3, for example. 2. Press Command I to pull up the "get info" window for that file. 3. Navigate to the "Name and extension" disclosure triangle and expand it. 4. VO right arrow a couple more times and you will find the magical "Open with" disclosure triangle. expand that and choose the app you want to play mp3's from the list. 5. VO right arrow and select the "Change all documents of this type" button. This will make it so that whatever app you chose before is the app the system goes to first. 6. You can now close the window with Command W and the OS should respect your decision. I hope this makes your life easier. I did note that when going into the context menu after I performed this, iTunes was still the default player, but the app I wanted (in my case VLC) opened just fine when the file was clicked. Oh, and if you don't want your downloaded files to open right away, there is a setting for that under Safari preferences. Yes, even though this is a Mac, I tweak and tweak and tweak some more. :)

Hi. when vo is focused on a link you want to download. try option return. I only heard of this shortcut recently. A good youtube to mp3 converter is youtube to mp3. if you search the mac app part of the directory you should find it. Another way to download a file is when its playing go to the address bar and press option return.
