Nice to finally be able to do this
Finally! I don't have a TVo
Finally! I don't have a TVo subscription anymore, but yeahI'm excited to be able to access this if I decide to get one one day when I'm by myself.
It's grate to see devs developing accessible apps for the hard ware controllers out there for this wonderful service. Let's hope they continue to do so in the future.
I have the latest version of
I have the latest version of the app and I can not seem to figure how to acces the sliders for changing the start and end times for a show that I wish to schedule.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
questions about Tivo devices and app
I am wondering if the app lets you turn the video description/audio language setting without sight? If I should decide to go with the Roamio Plus or pro, will streaming to the iDevice function if the Tivo is used with Time Warner Cable? I heard some rumors that TWC locked things down to where you may not be able to, but I'm not sure what to believe. I wanted to play shows through the iDevice because it'd be easier to get the audio to my speaker dock than stringing wire around the room, and I would like a DVR I could mostly manage, where playing shows on TWC's might be difficult, and they charge more monthly than Tivo does.
Some TiVo answers
@Khronos-sorry for the late reply. The "picker item" bug that showed up after an update was fixed in an update about 4 wks after I explained to CS and then to the devs what that problem was. Currently, all of those recording options are available.
@Brent-I can't say exactly how TiVo works with TW cable, but I have a Romeo+ and am currently unable to stream audio-description. It works great for streaming, just not the AD track. The app is very useful, though, and I have been told that the devs are working on a way to provide the description in the future.
As of virsion 3.5 watching
As of virsion 3.5 watching shows in the iPhone is completely accessible. The skip back and forward buttuns used to not be announced by voiceover so you had to tap where you thought they were. THis is now fixed.
Does This Work With Charter Cable?
I have been wanting to add Charter Cable TV to my home but when I asked them about a month ago whether or not the Tivo worked with their system they said no, that I had to use their box only. Previous to that conversation, I had read online that the Tivo did work with Charter but I had to ask for the card that went into the Charter box. Any suggestions appreciated.
Roxann- Sorry for the delay
I am using TiVo with Charter. To use with TiVo, you do need Charter's "cable card" and a "tuning adapter." It was a challenge, at first, to get the TiVo and cable card paired up, but after some trial and error, they finally paired and have been working well since.
THANKS
Hello Roj:
Thanks for your response. They told me that they didn't give out the cards anymore, only their boxes. I guess they don't get my business. I'm now anxiously waiting for WWDC in June to see what AppleTV will be releasing for their new service.
TiVo with Netflix description
After selecting description on my phone for Daredevil from Netflix, when I played it on my TiVo, the description played w/o having to turn it on again. I then tried selecting a different described show directly through TiVo and the AD played.
Updates with TIVO?
For years, I used a big square TIVO box by sound only—one bong 2 bongs ETC.…
in order to have somewhat of a DVR experience.
However I left TIVO over a year ago; and went to Xfinity Comcast and am now using all of their accessible features with voice.
I’m moving and Comcast is no longer an option in middle America-- I had no idea; and I’ll have to use Cox cable if I’d like such services. And once again I am thinking TIVO is the solution to my accessibility dilemma.
Is anyone using it regularly, and does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me about which model to purchase that will work best with the APP for accessibility ETC.
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!
A frequent TiVo user...
I use my TiVo Romeo Plus every day. The app on my iPhone makes it possible for me to schedule and access programs without even turning on my TV screen and just listening through my stereo. There are some occasional quirks with the app that sometimes come up; but, often, there are ways to work around these or, for one app problem, I had to spend some time on the phone with customer service to explain the issue and wait a couple of wks. while the app. devs. fixed it in an update-don't get me wrong, the app. and box were still mostly usable, there was just one flaw when it came to a programming detail. This is my first TiVo experience and I have been using my Romeo Plus successfully for almost 2 years-I can't imagine not having it at this point. I did need sighted assistance initially setting up and preparing the box-such as selecting "Spanish" language in order to receive DVS, but I don't think I've needed similar assistance since.
Sorry to be so long in my praise, if you have any other questions about some TiVo details, send me a message and I will get back to you.
TiVO Romio and app
Hi, Is it possible to get audio description to play using the iOS app? Or a sequence on the remote?
Turning on AD
I don't know of a way to turn on description through the app. The friend who helped me with initial hook-up selected the alternate language through the on-screen (inaccessible) menus. Unfortunately, this means there is occasionally some unwanted alternate language, but this isn't a frequent issue. Also, if streaming a show on an IOS device, recorded with AD, the description track is not played through IOS device, only the normal audio.
Screen Reader
The most current TiVo app update seems to work well with IOS 10.2 and a recent update to the main TiVo box added a screen reader as an audio setting option. They also added a shortcut by enabling you to press the "A" button on the remote for 2-3 seconds to be able to toggle screen reader on/off. It seems to work well with most menus, but doesn't work well with 3rd party options such as Netflix and Pandora etc. Overall, some things are now easier through the main unit and some things are easier with the IOS app. and Netflix needs to be started via it's own app and then sent to the TiVo but it is great to have so many ways to find what you're looking for.
Questions
I have Tevo but my parents have forgotten the log in so I can't access the app. Does the screen reader work with out the app and how could someone turn that on? I do not think our remotes have that button mentioned. Also do you know of a way to reset Tevo passwords?
re. questions
I am not sure about resetting the password but the screen reader is usable independent of the app. On my remote, the "A" button is right below the "jump back 8 seconds" button and just above the "1" button in a line of 4 buttons. The CS line should be able to help with a password reset; their # is 1-877-for-tivo.
More..re. questions
I am currently using a TiVo from the Romeo series. I am not sure if the screen reader will be on the older models but it should be on the Romeo and newer boxes.
Thanks
Thanks I'll give it a shot!
