Description

When using the swipe gesture to move through a active elements, you may occasionally find that VoiceOver suddenly starts to take 3-5 seconds to speak after you move focus to an item.

Once this behaviour presents itself, it typically becomes quite prevalent. Although it may not occur every time that you swipe after the problem first appears, it does become very frequent. For example, it swiping through a list, you may typically find that this problem occurs on every other item.

It has been speculated that this behaviour is a symptom of VoiceOver crashing and the delay in the speech is due to the time taken for VoiceOver to recover.

Workaround

Turning VoiceOver off and back on again does not appear to correct this behaviour when it occurs. The only reliable way to temporarily return to normal behaviour is to restart your iOS device by pressing and holding the Power and Home buttons for 5-10 seconds.

I have a problem with the VoiceOver ever since I've updated the iOS from 9.1 to 9.2 on my iPhone 6s. Every time I open a graphics intensive app such a photo, Maps/Google Maps, YouTube, Uber, or Lyft, VoiceOver stops talking for about 3 seconds and talks for about 3 seconds and stops for 3 seconds and talks for 3 seconds in a loop until I turn the iPhone off and turn it back on using the Turn On/Off button by itself or the Turn On/Off and the Home buttons together. It didn't behave like this on 9.1 or 9.0.2 and I never experienced it on any of my iPhones 5s or 4s which weren't running any iOS9.

I haven't upgraded to ios 9 because ever since ios 7, voiceover functions seemed to be getting worse with each update... Unfortunately my phone got upgraded to ios 8 when I sent it to apple for the iPhone 5 sleep/lock button recall. Now I have so many problems. I noticed sometimes, when I tap the screen or move my finger around on the screen, voiceover will stay silent and then after a little while, I would hear all these clicking sounds to where my finger was I guess. Also, not sure why when I try to choose a ringtone, when I flick through, it won't just go down the list in order and keeps jumping around, For example, I could be flicking through tones in , then it would jump to tones in S. Also, there seems to be problem with flicking around in managing contacts too.

I am so glad I found this thread. I was beginning to think I got a defective phone. The way my phone is behaving is exactly what is described above. I just bought my 6S 3 or 4 weeks ago and it has been doing this from day one. However, it is random. It is frustrating to have bought a phone expecting all the great things advertised, but actually encountering a problem I didn't have to deal with on my 4S.
Let's hope they fix this.
