Problem with Acapela voices and emoji

Hi there,

A few days ago I posted a comment complaining about emoji not being read by CoiceOver under OS X El Capitan. Well, turns out that I'm only half right. Since I got my mac in 2009 I've used the a capella voices, particularly the spanish voice, Antonio. This morning I was trying to send a birthday cake icone but, as I previously mentioned, VoiceOver didn't read the labeled pictures. Then I tried switching to a Nuance voice and magically it worked, all the emoticones were read from the begining to the end.

Anyone using the a capella voices and infovox ivox who has the same problem? Who should I report this to, the assistive ware team?

Thank you very much, and have a happy new year

The solution for that is simple. You have just to hover over the emoticon and use word spell command, which is VO+W.

I tried what you said but it is not working for me. This is not a big deal, I can switch to a nuance voice pressing a few keys, but maybe I should report this.

Well, here it works. This is on iVox Infovox 4.2. So to detail it further, I open the emoticons with ctrl+CMD+Space then go around the selections from the lists and for example animal emoticons are not announced. I press VO and while keeping both keys pressed I double press the W key and it is announced.

That is exactly what I did. Maybe it works with some voices only

Nope. I'm using english acapela voices, and your issue persists. If you switch to nuance voices, like you said, the issue goes away.
I'd report this bug to assistiveware.
HTH!

I already sent them an emil explaining the issue. For those who want to do the same it can be done by opening the infovox voice manager, selecting the help menu from the menu bar and pressing contact support.

Hi Raul,

Thank you for contacting AssistiveWare Support. It is my pleasure to assist you today.

Please know that I can confirm that this happens with several voices. Could you please pass the issue to Acapela with all the details you can give them while I run more tests and also send it to Acapela?

You can directly reach Acapela here: http://www.acapela-group.com/contact/

Please let us know if you have additional questions.

With kind regards,

Enrique
