I think only four will fit. You tap then double tap and hold on the app icon then keeping your finger on the icon you can drag it to the dock. Voiceover will say moving app icon. Once you get it to the dock lift your finger. Press the home button when you are done.
In order to add something to your doc something else must be removed first. For example I wanted to put trivia crack kingdoms in my doc but before I could I removed the mail app then replaced it with the game
It can be quite a difficult decision to think of which apps should be and should not be in the dock. Also remember that you do not have to have four items in the dock. You can even have a completely empty dock if you want to.
What I mean by the limit is that if you remove all apps from the Dock and put in different ones you can only put in 6. But if you don't think it is 6 I might have a different Apple device than you guys because I have an iPad Mini and 6 apps can fit in the Dock.
Maybe for iPhones you can only fit 4, but for my iPad I can fit six. I think it all depends on the size of your Apple device.
