Accessibility Comments

As the developers behind this app has made some great stride in making this more accessible. As they have noted in their latest version. They have made some improvements with VoiceOver. However, there still quite a few unlabel buttons that are seen through out the app itself. For what I have seen it is about 70 - 80% accessible. The alerts are easy to use and set up along with a handful of other great things you will find in this app. So here is for more improvements in the future!

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

The latest update makes this far and away the best sports app I've found with regard to V"oiceover usage. i can access scores, news, standings, personal options, everything.... Nice job, Yahoo

A brand new update for the app which brings us a whole new UI interface. For the most part it is mostly accessible. Still quite a few unbel buttons but generally easy to know what they do. The menu appears to incorporate more of the new clide in and slide out menus. So the touching around the screen will not make sense. So you will need to rely on the old fashion of swiping left and right so that you will get all of the things you need to hear.

What's New in Version 3.0

- Completely redesigned UI with easier and faster access to scores and your favorite teams
- More content - game previews/recaps and faster access to stats and play-by-play
- More stats - league leaders and player pages
- Integrated with Siri to get your content as fast as possible

must say i'm very disappointed with this update, before it the app was perfect, afterwards when i opened it after updating it seemed barely usable. i couldn't select any of the sports or do anything for that matter. closing and reopening it seemed to make things abit better, in that it landed in the mlb section. from then i could navigate between sports as long as i wasn't in the scores tab, whenever i try to go hear in any sport it justs throws me out of the app, any thoughts thomas or others? a final observation i'd make is that in the news section it doesm't actually tell you what the story is, only how recent it is and which company wrote it. a miner detail but still... thanks, rob.

Must agree in some perspective it has gone down in terms of being as accessible as it was before. However, they have improved on other things. Go figures! Well, I am not having the problem of the app itself crashing on me at all. So I am able to switch from different Sports and view the content without much issues. So as an IT Help Desk would say. :) Have deleted the app. Re-install it. Reboot the the device. Now go in to it and see if it crashes any more. The News I agree with you. Is that it no longer read the actual headline of that article. Just when it was published and by whom. :( The Alerts however now works great and works with Voice Over quite well. I was mostly in to the alerts and the standings and scores myself. So they at least are half way accessible. Sorry I couldn't help you any more nor do I have any suggestions for the crashes other than what I've mentioned above. So good luck on your journey.

If you are looking for a completely accesible great free app for scores get sports alerts. It is by far the best app that works with Voiceover. I to was very disappointed with this update considering Yahoo makes such a point about being a forward thinking company when it comes to #A11Y

This is such a powerful app. The unlabeled buttons are a bit annoying, but I agree for alerts this thing is amazing. Hopefully the future brings this app even more friendly with VO.

I’ve not yet had an opportunity to check to see what they are, but an update just released has specific mention of accessibility improvements: What's New in Version 5.0.2
  • Added coverage of the 2014 Sochi Games
  • Improved news feed and article navigation
  • Added settings option to hide Top Loop on game details
  • Accessibility improvements
  • Improved loading and navigation performance
  • Fixed a few crashes and other bugs
In the latest version all of the headlines of articles are now read to you with VoiceOver, from what I can tell the app is now mostly accessible. Unfortunately navigating scores is still a bit of a pain with VoiceOver. At first glance I didn't play around with the scores area as my go to app for scores is Sports Alerts. I would highly suggest this app to anyone looking to keep up on sports news, but would not recommend it as an app for a VoiceOver user to follow scores, as that part of the app still seems fairly confusing. This is a great step in the right direction by the Yahoo Development Team building VoiceOver functionality in to their app, and I am sure it will only get better in future updates. .
