Hello everyone,
I am going to an Apple store this weekend to look at the Apple Watch. I have been thinking of getting myself one. I listened to a podcast on Eyes On Success about the new DOT braille smart watch and now I am reconsidering the apple watch. I know that four braille cells on a watch is not much but this watch is platform independant. What are others thoughts on this issue? To Apple Watch or to DOT watch that is the question.

My thing about the braille
My thing about the braille watch is it that it's 4 cells. You can't really even get the time on that completley. I personally if I had the money would go for the apple.
If you're thinking about the Apple watch...
Hello,
If you’re leaning towards the Apple watch, this may help a bit. IF you have a Best Buy nearby, check them out. Currently, until Christmas, they have a 100 dollars off any watch. And if you check out the stores or online, they may have an open box item which will knock off another 10 percent. Don’t let the term open box turn you off. It’s still a new item that is still covered by the Apple warranty and qualifies for Apple care if you want it. SGoing this route can save you money on something that never goes on sale at the Apple store.
For example, there was a 42mm sports model at my local best buy going for 279.99. And if you have a best buy card, you get 6 months zero percent finance.
HTH and good luck.
apple watch for me
I just read reviews on the dot watch after seeing this post and was not really impressed. The apple watch just has so many more capabilities. The dot watch is just the time and basic notifications. With my apple watch I can check and do tons of things. Yeah it's audio as opposed to braille. But four cells of braille would make things a lot more cumbersome. I love that my apple watch can work with my apple tv also. The remote feature from the apple watch will not be found on any other product. The exercise features are something I use constantly. For me, I like the feature rich apple watch. If you want something that just does the basics, then the dot watch may be better for you.
I would get neither
I believe that both of these watches have their disadvantages. I think an important question to ask is "Why do you want these watches in particular? What features are you looking for that you think these watches could provide?" In my opinion, the Apple Watch would not fit my needs as I only need to check the time, and have basic notifications. I could end up using some of the features of the Apple Watch like the fitness aspects of it, but at the moment I would not see this as particularly important for me. I would not get the Dot Watch for a few reasons:
1) We have no idea how many blind people are testing it. With a lack of blind people, the watch may have features that would not suit the overall blind market. A product that I am thinking is similar to this is the RIVO Bluetooth keyboard.
2) Four cells of braille can only convey so much information, and I see it as being quite impractical. However, I do not think you could fit any more than four cells of braille on a watch. But let's see. This Dot Watch could be magnificent, or it could be a disaster. The Apple Watch has proven to be both, according to people who already own one.
I have a Bradley Timepiece, and although it is not a watch that can do many things, sighted people like it, and so do blind people. It's a very high-quality watch, and I recommend it.
Apple Watch Wins
As others have already posted here, the Apple Watch has way more capabilities than the DOT watch does. Yes, it would be nice to have a braille watch again because of it's discrete features, but, the Apple Watch can do much more than just give the time in braille. I personally like my devices to do as many things as possible in one package.
Time Buzz
I don't know if it matters to the original poster, but I believe the time buzz app that was just released really makes the Apple watch a much more attractive option. I have been bata testing the Time Buzz app for a while and it has made all the difference as far as my opinion of the Apple watch.
I have a DOT Watch
Wow, I am so pleased I took a chance and bought the DOT Watch. It is so innovative, covering the braille cells with a thin skin (a spare is provided), for instance. I wish my braille display had a replaceable skin. I have had talking watches, pocket and wrist, tactile watches that bite and a Bradley Timepiece that doesn’t. I have an Apple watch that will now take second place to the DOT Watch.
