hi all, recently I have ben lucky enough to get approved for financing for a new iMac. the one I'm getting is a 21.5 inch quad core i five processor, and a 1 tb drive that is 5400 rpm per minute. my question here is, have any of you had this model of iMac, and if so, how good are these compared to some of the older iMacs, and what is your experiences with voiceover on one of these iMacs verses voiceover and software on say a mac book pro? any advice about this mac would be helpful. I also forgot to mention, this iMac also comes with eight gigs of ram, i would have upgraded to 16 gigs, but I don't have an extra hundred dollars. my final question is, if we buy these macs like this, can we put more ram into them? thanks.

I'd consider getting a faster hard disk at some point
I don't have any personal experience with any iMac myself, still using a 2008 Mac Pro as my main desktop and IOS for everything else. I can say though that the hard disk in that model is very slow and I don't know why Apple cut corners on it. If you can replace the hard disk at a future time and do a reinstall of OS X or clone from your older one with Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper, i'd seriously consider that.
I think the memory can be increased on that model though i'm not sure if it's soldered to the logic board or not as with the laptops. I'm sorry if this reply isn't all that helpful, I wanted to get a response in as you haven't had anything as of yet.
In terms of VO working
In terms of VO working differently on MBP vs iMac, there's no difference. VO works the same on each mac regardless if iMac or MBP. I think the memory might be soldered onto the board like in the newer laptops. Quad core is t the way to go for the MBP/iMac. It's really fast, and I've had no issues with my pro, except getting a SSD replacement over the past summer. You can also get the magic mouse too, so using VO gestures is possible on the iMac.
MY comments about the hard disk
I only mention the hard disk being slow because of transfer speeds. I think 5400 RPM drives in 2015 are a disgrace for a modern machine.
Yeah, I'm surprised that you
Yeah, I'm surprised that you can still get a iMar/laptop with a mechanical disk. If I were to get a mechanical spinning disk in a computer again, it would probably be 7200RPM or faster. Faster RPM usually means faster transfer speeds. It's also worth saying that SSD's are probably the best thing I've invested in for my mac.
