My wife has a MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010) 2.4 GHz and I want to upgrade it for her got vhtidymsd.
The first question i have is that i’ve noticed from some research that as of OS X 10.7.5 with the latest firmware update, this unit can support up to 16GB of ram (2X 8GB sticks). Has anyone tested and verified that this is fact?
Secondly, Is it possible to install a solid state drive into this unit? If so, do you have any specifications for SSD drives i should seek out?
She has no problem installing hardware, i just need to know what hardware will work for this unit.
Don’t suppose i can upgrade the processor?
best.

Hi.
Hi.
I've got a mid 2012 15 inch pro with 8GB ram, i7 quad core CPU, and 500GB SSD drive that upgraded over the summer. The 500GB original mechanical disk started failing so I replaced it with SSD, thank goodness! I don't know which brand of drive it was, but it has worked perfectly. I've got an aunt of mine that has a mid 2010 pro 13 inch and she upgraded to an SSD drive.I'd say take it to a computer store that services apple computers and talk to them about upgrading to an SSD that way, or your wife could remove the old drive, and install the necessary componentry. And, yes 16GB ram should work fine on your machine. I've heard of people running it on there MacBook Pros.
Upgrades
Hi Michael.
I'd suggest getting a samsung 850 ssd, they offer the best reliability for macs.
You can usually find them for under 150 for a 256 gb version.
The upgrade is very simple, you unscrew the back of the computer, just make sure to keep the three screws by the hindge away from the others, they are longer and you need to make sure they go back in the same spots.
Also, make sure you have a torx 6 screw driver. The hard drive itself has little screw that look like watch screws.
The drive is a 7mm drive, and it should fit perfectly.
Good luck and let me know if i can help in any other way!
thanks chris88
thanks for that information re: the hard drive. I will be sure to check it out. We have already tinkered with the inside and replaced the current HD in it with an older macbook HD to get data off that HD, so I know how to replace the drive. Just needed information on what specks we needed for the SSD.

Hi Michael,
Hi Michael,
The SSD is a samsung SSD 850EVO 500GB, and it has worked wonderfully! Your wife'll love it!!
Hi
My mid 2012 Macbook Pro is going to die, not due to natural causes, but spontaneous, assisted flight through the nearest window.
The thing is unbelievably slow! I am currently collecting the required hardware to put 250 gig SSD and 16 gig RAM in there.
You might think I am cheep, and you are probably correct, but I will be fixing My own machine. I refuse to pay a store $200 to do work that I can do myself.
