Blindfold Air Hockey

Category

Description of App

Blindfold Air Hockey is an fully accessible audio game that's similar to the arcade game Air Hockey.

In Blindfold Air Hockey, you have a mallet or paddle, and there's a puck on the playing table. To start the game, hit the puck swiping your finger. The puck heads towards your opponent's goal, where he knocks it back to you, bouncing off of the walls as it gets closer to your goal. You block his shot, and fire the puck back at his goal. The first player to score 7 goals wins the game.

Using head phones or ear buds, you hear the puck heading towards you, and you control your mallet by moving your finger left and right. When the puck is close enough, you'll hear a ding sound, and you can swipe the puck aim at your opponent's goal.

Blindfold Air Hockey comes with a tutorial level, and 16 different opponents - varying from beginner to expert.

Blindfold Air Hockey was suggested by several blind gamers who enjoyed Blindfold Breakout and Blindfold Bowling.

The game comes with coins; you need one coin to play. To get more coins, you can listen to advertising videos, or purchase coins as an in-app upgrade.

Hi. This is a really good game and I enjoyed playing it. My one observation is that I couldn't see the goal as it hasn't been highlited well and I had lost a few points because of it. Could you program a tennis game like this as I know that would be a great hit amongst the gaming community on here. I use to play tennis on the old games machines that only had basic 16K graphics and the background colour was black.

Hi! I downloaded Blindfold Air Hockey after reading the App Directory entry above, and, although I only have light perception and therefore play this game only with my ears, it is definitely hard for me to score goals, at least that has been my experience so far. I played the tutorial level just before writing this post, and my virtual opponent scored 7 goals while i scored none. But that's only my very first attempt at playing this game, so I won't give up: either I'm doing something slightly wrong or this game is more challenging than I expected it to be. Either way, I definitely like Blindfold Air hockey, even though it may be a while before I get good at playing it;

Could there be an option for you to change the game's score? I mean, right now it is seven, but what if you want a longer match? Just a suggestion for an update.

Hi. The dev has left the display on for low vision users so that's why I prefer to look at the screen. I don't like any game that is based on sound only and I only wish more devs would release titles for low vision users of Apple products. I gave up real life sport like tennis and football just because they removed the low vision category and we registered blind people were required to ware a blindfold. That's not my idea of enjoyment so I gave the sport up. I'm sick of this attitude ware low vision people are ignored.

I will add changing the goal - that's a good idea. As to the screen, I leave it on so that sighted people have can play as well. Most sighted people are horrendous at audio games; from the research I've read, blind people's audio cortex are far more developed than sighted people. I'm curious how the visual cortex and the audio cortex develop with people with low vision.

Also - if you can't win, try playing against the worst player - Dave. I assume you are wearing earbuds or headphones. Dave misses most of his shots, so you just need to keep your goal protected with your paddle.

In my earlier comment, I said that I have played Blindfold Air Hockey using only my ears, and in my case that's the same for any of the apps in the Blindfold Games series. I have a very good reason for this, namely that I don't have enough vision to see any graphics on the screen on my iPhone. However, despite the "blindfold" name of games like this one, which could imply that we should only use our ears, I wouldn't condemn anyone with low vision for making good use of the graphics they can see to help them play the game. Play Blindfold Air Hockey whatever way works for you, that's the important thing: some of us have no choice but to just use our ears, but good on the developers for including graphics so those with low but usable vision can play using their eyes as well if they want to!

I can definitely see myself plunking down cash for this in the near future. The puck behavior is very realistic, and playing it really does feel like air hockey. One thing I noticed on the tutorial levels, at least, is that with each new round, I kept having to place my finger higher and higher on the screen, or the game would inform me that I was too close to my goal. Eventually I couldn't place it anywhere because the goal boundary had, presumably, exceded the height of my device's screen. Even so, well done.

Regarding the other question about device movement versus swiping, I would appreciate the other games which currently rely exclusively on motion (e.g. hopper, pong, and breakout) to have a swipe option. At the rare times I have to indulge myself with one of these diversions, I'm not in a location where swinging my phone around is wise or practical. Thus, I for now confine myself to bowling and the other card games.

In the games you mentioned, the option of whether to swing the phone or move the finger is available. It's been a while since I have changed the option, but I believe it is with a 3-finger swipe down from the main menu.

I know, I say this every time. Air Hockey's a lot of fun. I always use swiping on these games for safety reasons and I think that method's probably more precise anyway for finer control. I'll be definitely getting the unlimited coins option soon. P.S., when pinball arrives, shut up and take my money.

This is one of my favorite games in the series. It's extremely addicting. One minor problem at least for me is that I'm swiping my finger up like crazy to hit the puck, and so if I swipe even a second after the last one goes into whoever's goal, a new game is started automatically, because that swiping gesture serves to hit the puck and start a new game. So it uses a coin even if I did not intend for that to happen. Maybe, just for this game, the gesture to start a new one could be changed, for example, to swiping up with two fingers.

Just played this a little bit, but I love it. Really brings back memories.

I agree with the above comment though. Game center is a much needed addition to all of these games.

Ok, in playing this game I beagt dave like it was nothing, but might I suggest the sounds of the puck bouncing off the sides of the table come from gtiher respective directions? It took me a moment to realise what was going on. Wish the beginning level were a bit fasterbut it works.

OH wow, way too cool! I am v ery i8nterested in stuff like that as I was going to go in to a music therapy degree, bbut for more info as I'm drifting take a look at my profile on here.

Hello all, having trouble with scoring a goal. I am playing the tutorial level , and I can't seem to figure out how to score a goal. From my understanding, when you hear the beeping sound you can swipe up to the left or right to the puck. However, it's not working out for me. It sounds like I'm hitting the puck, however I don't think I'm doing so well.

Don't try to score a goal in the tutorial. The tutorial is there just to help you learn how to shoot.
Play against the worst player instead. I think that's dave.
