While live streaming in audio only has very few options, there are at least a couple options that are for the most part accessible. It depends on which method you will prefer to use. The first of these two is called Spreaker, and its broadcast companion app called Spreaker Studio. While the website on the computer may be tricky, Spreaker is very accessible, and you may have minor issues with the spreaker studio app, but they shouldn't affect your ability to broadcast. The advantage of this app is that you don't have to pay for a server, you just create an account, and start broadcasting. The disadvantages are that you are limited to only a half an hour of live streaming or prerecorded episodes, unless you sign up for one of their premium plans, which are pricy in my opion, but audio takes up disk space, and it does cost them money to keep the site up. I often use this method if I have a set plan on what I want to talk about, so I can just go in there and ramble. They do have mixing consoles in the app to add music tracks and sound effects, but I generally use it for talking only, since it's only a half an hour.
Another method you can try is an app like KoalaSan, or I believe there is an app called ICast 2 I believe, and that costs more than KoalaSan. I paid 10 bucks for KoalaSan, and I think ICast 2 is about 25 dollars. ICast 2 comes with cool features like social integration, so you can tweet when you're going on the air, plus a whole load of other stuff. I wouldn't know, seeing as I don't have the app, but I've heard good things about it. The advantages of this app is that you can choose where you will be broadcasting, and there is no time limit. I believe the only major disadvantage of this app is that unless you have a server to broadcast from, the app isn't worth using. I don't have a broadcast server, so that's the main reason I have not invested money in this app. I would love to do a live internet stream sometime, but I'm just sticking to Spreaker for now. While I have managed to do live hangouts on air discussions on the computer, I don't believe there is a way to do it through the IOS app. While you can do hangout video and voice calls, and probably even join a hangout on air discussion, I don't believe you can start a live discussion from your phone. If there is a different app that allows you to do this, please show me. I'd love to give it a try!
Go for Periscope. Does do video as well, and there is no option for just audio, but its the fastest plug&play solution I know. Also its mainstream so you'll likely get more viewers/listeners. Downside is that Periscope doesn't allow for stereo audio yet. Has integrated twitter support, chat, and geotag of broadcasts.
Use koalasan. I love that app,. Also icast2. Both are very good and I used it to stream my convention I was at for those who were going to miss the stream.
Hangs outs does not do audio and you cannot start a hangout on air unless you start it from your computer so a live remote is not possible.
Periscope does not do audio only so that's out. I wish people would read the app descriptions first.
spreaker lost my support because of their price pints. They suck $4.99 a month for 45 minutes and $17 for 6 hours? No thanks Also the website is not reallyusable on the mac side of things.
I think the most important requirement to use KoalaSan is a shoutcast/icecast server? I bought the app, and then took it back as I realized I had nothing to use it with, but I too think it would be cool to find an app for this kind of stuff.

Google Hangouts can be configured to livestream to a YouTube channel. That is not necessarily audio only, but it will live stream with audio.

KoalaSan no mp3
unfortunately KoalaSan doesn't allow you to stream in mp3.
This is, on my opinion, a super great limitation.
I use iCastPro, really the best choice.
ICastPro2 is ok but it costs a lot!
