Accessibility Comments

This game is fully accessible, and the developers are responsive to accessibility requests, but there are a couple of things that take some getting used to. It deals with a map, and when you are claiming turf, you won't know who has turf that's close to you without sighted assistance. This doesn't affect gameplay, it's just nice to know where you are, in relation to others. I have also noticed that sometimes, when you try to choose one thing, you jump to a different screen. I'm not sure if this is because the game is showing a split screen, but with a little patience, you can get where you want to go. This doesn't happen often, but it is worth noting.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

For those who may be missing the Storm8 games, this is similar to IMobsters. It's a cross between Mafia Wars and IMobsters, but the thing that makes it unique is the realtime GPS factor. You literally "claim turf" in your own city, and later, around the world. It's easy to grow your mob, but the most fun can be had if you have friends who play in the same city.

Wow loving this game so far. it's a bit confusing and claming terf could be easier, however I hope that can change.

Take care.

By Jen on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

I'm not sure how the turf map could be made more accessible, but I hope someone who knows more about gaming than I do could make some suggestion.
This game is fun though, claiming the streets you know in your town. I can't wait til level 15, when I get to the airports and can claim turf in cities around the world.

By KE7ZUM on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

I managed to capture terf but it took a lot of guess work. Since i could only 2 0.6 miles from my location I just flicked to the places and double tapped until the page changed to reflect the create screen.

By Ken Downey on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

The help screens are only somewhat helpful as they do not discuss things like skill points, but it's helpful enough. Also, I think flicking is exactly the right way to handle the map, at least as far as seeing who has turf you can take. The devs just need to add other players into the map as points of interest. Then, we can find and click on them a lot faster.

By Jen on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

There is a ton of helpful information on the forums. You can find them from the main screen of the game, but you can also go to the TurfWars website, and see them there. The longtime players seem very friendly, and they've created a lot of FAQs and "getting started" guides. I think those are more helpful than the in-game help.

By KE7ZUM on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

I was there and put my invite code in. I hope the map can be made usable as I've gotten lost in that map a few times. Lol!

By Ken Downey on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

Having trouble capturing other players' turf. Whenever I try it says I can't capture their turf from where I am, but I can do it with a different turf. I select the eligeable turf with the picker but still can't capture the turf. Any ideas?

By Ken Downey on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

This dev also has a game called Global supremicy. Very detailed and a bit more interesting than Turf Wars, because you have to scan for resources and you build or join syndicates that can fight or help each other., One of the more interesting things you have to do is scan for items. You first build a bass, like building a turf. Then you click scan and then, once it's complete, you click scan and then click around where your bass is. It'll tell you how many items were found, then it's up to you to find them. You look for map pins, and when you find one tap on it. Then the game will tell you what you've found. Great game, for sure!

By KE7ZUM on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

I got word from the dev that they are beta testing a new interface and would like those of us interested to join. If you want to improve the app submit feedback from there and tell them about this thread. I did so we'll see what happens.

Take care.

Do I need to turn GPS on? It reduces the battery life of my Iphone. So do I have to turn GPS on or can I leave it off?
Thanks

Everyone please share mob codes! Mine is pothead420.

By Ken Downey on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

Does anyone know how to capture turf? It always says my turf isn't eligeable to capture one I've selected, but anowith of my locations is, then I click its button and see xs%stats but no capture button shows up. If I select that turf, then I no longer see the turf I intended to capture. Thoughts?

By KE7ZUM on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

I tap the terf nect to my area and if it is elegable I get the term creation screen.

Btw if anyone wants to add me my mob code os THING633

By Jen on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

Feel free to add MOVIES to your mob.
Thank you.

By Ken Downey on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

I went into this game thinking that social interaction wouldn't be that helpful. I figured that since the missions were so hard-core, the players would all try to act all hardcore too. Wow, was I wrong. You can certainly play the game without reading the guides in the forum, it's simple enough, but you will miss out on SO much good stuff. I encourage everyone to get this game, as the other players are nothing but respectful and kind to each other. Yeah, they might capture your turf, but if you congratulate them for their latest acquisition And ask them not to cap any more of your turf, you've probably made a new friend. This game, I found out after reaching level 42, is not about leveling up at all. It's mainly about making friends and finding groups and alliances to join. Very great game:, and now that I know all this I'm more addicted than ever.

By KE7ZUM on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 19:19

Dont' forfet that the don does not protect you after level 50. I wonder if trhi is why I'm loosign every battle i fight. Not ready to cap terf even though I only have 30 mob members. Lol!

There is an update specifically devoted to accessibility, including the turf map. I haven't looked at it, but I just downloaded the update so wanted to let everyone know.

By Jen on Monday, November 23, 2015 - 19:19

The accessibility update is great, especially with the turf map. I also left some feedback about the lack of accessibility in the market, specifically in the "buying multiple items" beta. I didn't expect a response, I just intended to leave the suggestion. But the developer responded to me directly, and said they're working on the issue. Developer responsiveness, just one more reason I love this app!

By Jen on Monday, November 23, 2015 - 19:19

I am amazed at what the developers did with the turf map.
When you're browsing or claiming turf now, while you're looking at the map, it's set up like a grid system. So it might say, "J1 open in range, J2 open out of range," etc. So it's easy to see where you want to claim, and it's also possible to see places where you might have to pay protection money to another player if you claim turf there.
I didn't have any idea how the turf map could be made accessible, but they did it, and they did it well!
I wish all games with maps used a system like this.

By KE7ZUM on Monday, November 23, 2015 - 19:19

The only thing I don't like is I don't know what I'm claiming so I dunno if it is a restaurant or what not. I need to figure out how to have players pay more protection to me so I can make more money but I'm sure that will come as I level up.

By Jen on Monday, November 23, 2015 - 19:19

When you're in the map, if you use your VoiceOver rotor and choose points of interest, you can use the one-finger-flick up or down gesture and click on anything you find. In other words, if there's a restaurant you want, click on it, and you'll be taken to that point on the map. If it's within range, then you can claim it.

By Raul on Monday, November 23, 2015 - 19:19

Hi @Ken Downey,
I downloaded Global supremacy but I don't seem to undersand the basics. All I see is a map of my area with a bunch of buttons like build, scan, territory, etc. How do I know or choose where to build things? I didn't install turf wars so I can't compare them. Is the accessibility similar? Can you play it with VoiceOver? I'm talking about Global Supremacy.

Thanks.

By mslion on Monday, November 23, 2015 - 19:19

sometimes when I for example try to add health or set upgrades I will be directy to the other screen. I I figured it out correctly I will go to the screen under the button I was tryint to press?
any of you figured out a way around this problem?

thanks in advance, Mslion

I've been playing this game for about 10 days now, I have 20 turfs and making 800k an hour.
I'm having a blast because the map is actually helping me get to know the city I live in much better than I had before.
The part I find challenging as a blind person is growing mob size.
There are several sites like the tw forus and mob.codes where you can ad your invite code so that others can invite you to join there mob.
I accept all invites because there isn't any reason not to.
Thre is also a list on mob.codes where invite codes are shown and you can get the system to keep track of which codes you entered already.
You must enter the codes in to the invite box manually which can take a while if you are using voiceover on the phone and a computer to read the website to get the code so you can type it in to the device but, it can definitely be done.
I don't know a faster way of doing this.
It will be interesting to see how we all play this game because there is so much you can do and everyone can have a different stratigy.
We can help each other with accessability tips as well.
Like Ken said, the forums and the dvs are great and really ad to the game.
You can also ask me any game questions and I'll be glad to help out.
my invite code is: roast959

Just downloaded this game, I have to say, I'm quite impressed. I previously played crime incorporated, which I found quite fun, but still in ways disappointing, this one however is a lot better, and I can definitely say that I'll continue playing it.

By kev lyon on Saturday, January 23, 2016 - 19:19

anyone managed to do this using voiceover? there's a beta testing alert thing on the market page, but even using that I can't swipe up or down in the box to select multiples. oh and my mob code if anyone wishes to join is NOD30838.

It doesn't seem to be working now, but I did manage to do this several times. When you find the box that says "swipe up or down to choose the quantity for purchase," and it's at 0, the trick was to tap and hold, then swipe up a little bit, and then move your finger to the right. That would increase the quantity, and swiping up and to the left would decrease it. It was always kind of hit or miss, but I bought a lot of armor and weapons at one time, so I wouldn't have to try to make it work as often. I can't say if it's not working now, or if I'm just experiencing the "miss" in the hit or miss equation today, but you can try this technique and see if it helps you at all. I'm hoping there will be a simpler solution soon.

By kev lyon on Saturday, January 23, 2016 - 19:19

well I did try this tap, hold, swipe method today and 7 times out of ten it does seem to work. does seem a bit hit and miss if the box even comes up when you tap and hold the buy button, not perfect by any means but a good enough work around at present. beats having to buy 200 weapons one by one anyway. :)

I tap and hold, then go to the bottom of the screen, then flick to the items I want, flick left to done, then flick to buy x number.

hope that helps.

I use command-c an app on my mac that shares clipboards so I just copy and share my mac's clipboafrd with ios, and there you go.

Take care.

Hi,
I've been enjoying this game for over a week now, and I'm doing pretty well, however, I seem to have trouble understanding certain parts of the map. I understand the claim turf screen, with the grid that says open in range B2 or other labels along these lines. However, what I find hard, first, are the points of interests, I find it in the roter, however, when I flick up and down VoiceOver just makes the sound to say that there's nothing there, I did it for a few locations but it doesn't seem to work. Also, after I flick through a few turfs, I have a list of different streets around my city, so let's for example say broad street for the purpose of this post, hot do I get to that road, because double tapping doesn't seem to do anything, VoiceOver just speaks the name of that road, but nothing seems to change when I look at the turfs.
So in summary, how do I access points of interests, because it seems like I'm either missing something or doing something wrong? And when I double tap on street names, nothing seems to happen, is that what's supposed to happen, and I'm just missing something, or is there an issue with it?
Cheers
Hubert

Hi. My invite code is E215 and I am going to invite everyone who has posted invite codes on this thread.

By Jessica Brown on Saturday, January 23, 2016 - 19:19

Hi. I am also having the problems of voiceover making the nothing there sound when I try to routor through points of interest and double tapping on a street name usually does not work for me either. I managed to go to a street by double tapping it once but not sure how I did it. All other times I tried it it did not work.

By Jessica Brown on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 - 19:19

Hi. I love this game. It's verry fun. However, I have a few questions. Is there anyone out there who is good at this game who could help me?

so, how do I clame the first terf? I go to the map but I can't get the location permissions dialogue to show up, or anything. it appears to be frozen.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, September 23, 2021 - 19:19

Ok, for waht ever reason I had to start the app 5 times to do what I need to to do. Can I rename a terf?

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, September 23, 2021 - 19:19

Ok, so now that I figured out how to get past the tutorial. I have another issue. How do you move to one of your turfs so you can capture one, or try and capture one. I dont' see a way to do this from the map, or from my turf screen.
