Experiences with Google docs

Hey everyone, I was playing with Google docs yesterday, in the OS 10 crome browser and it seems almost usable now. Of course since it is a Google product it is finicky, but it seems to offer some promise. I was wondering if anyone has had experience using this service. Any info and thoughts would be appreciated. I'm primarily interested in the service as an alternative way to access word docs and pdf files. The specific questions I have are, one, how do you edit a file? I was able to do it once, but I was not able to reproduce. I can navigate through a document, but I can not seem to alter the text. Question number two, is there any way to fill out a pdf form? I don't think so, but it would be super amazing if this service did offer that ability since it is lacking on the mac. Final question, I noticed that you seem to be able to access headings in both pdf's and word documents, which is great since this functionality is also lacking in OSX, does anyone know anything els about accessing accessibility features that are not available in pages and preview? for example what do tables look like in pdf documents? I apologize for all of these questions, I mainly just want to know if google docs offers any added accessibility that the mac does not natively have when it comes to documents. Thanks a billion.

Hi, I also would like to know how to use google docs on the mac, not only in chrome but in safari with voiceover. In safari it doesn't seem to be very accesible. Thanks

I actually used it in chrome and the experience was horable.

  1. It looses focus and interacting again does not seem to work.
  2. opening a document is easy but menus tend to freeze on me, or not show up at all
  3. Focus jumps around and around to the point where it's almost impossible to even get what you want t get done. You might be in a tool bar then vo right or tab and you end up at the bottom where you don't want.
  4. Reading text is not as easy as it should be.

By the way all of this is with accessibility mode on. The experience is just down right horrible and I fear it will never get better.

I read the google manual on this and it did not help at all. and I migh thave to use google docs for work in a few months.
