Hello, I just want the AppleVis community's opinion on this topic: Is Handwriting Mode better than Braille Screen Input?

That depends on what you're comfortable with. For me, Handwriting is tedious and slow, whereas BSI is way faster than even the on-screen keyboard and second only to an external keyboard. I'm sure others feel just the opposite, though. If you know braille well, I think BSI will prove to be the best option. If you know print well and don't use braille, and you take the time to get used to it, Handwriting may end up being quite efficient. So, personally, I say BSI is better, but that's only because I know braille already and am used to typing it on the screen.

Thank you, Megcap thank you for your opinion I use BRAILLE Screen Input to type when I am not using my braille display. In fact I am using BSI to type this comment right now. lol

If you prefer to use handwriting, that's what's better for you. If you prefer to input information through the use of braille, that's your choice. Only you can answer your question.

Your question is intended for the audience who is thoroughly familiar with both. If one is unfamiliar with one or both they will be unable to answer your question with much or any merit. Personally, I am completely unfamiliar with visual notation though folks have attempted to teach me more than twice. I simply do not understand it. However, I am very well-versed in several codes of braille thus I use Braille Screen Input whose capabilities seemed to have improved in the current public iOS 9 beta builds. Either that or I simply overlooked contracted braille input in iOS 8. The current state of the built-in braille keyboard makes Braille unnecessary for me… but I digress.

To answer your question, nobody can truly answer that because ‘better’ is based solely on opinion which reduces any reply to nothing more than conjecture. As previously stated, for that opinion to have any merit, the responder must be thoroughly well-versed in both manners of keyboard input.

I'm so used to the regular keyboard with touch typing mode, I haven't really tried Braille input. Handwriting's out of the question for me as I can't write print, but Braille definitely sounds very interesting. I will try it soon.
