Lookking for a good text editor

Hi!

For years I've used a program called Tincta, that was a very simple and easy to use texteditor. The company behind the software decided to discontinue it, due to the fact that other companies published other editors that was more powerful than Tincta. When I asked them about which editor to pick after Tincta they suggested atom editor but this editor is not accessible on the Mac.

I need an editor that handles textfiles and perhaps some language support. If you've used Windows I'm looking for a program like notepad plus plus or something that can get as close as possible. Thanks in advance Best regards Thomas

What features are you looking for, exactly? I ask because Text Edit is a very capable, yet simple, application that should work quite well for basic text editing. I've never used Notepad++ so am not sure what it offers that Text Edit lacks. Pages is also good, if very much more complicated, and if your Mac is relatively new you get Pages free.

Hi!

I mostly want to choose between different text incodings like UTF8 ISO Latin1 etc. that's something I need to use so I can edit files across all my devices. I also do quite a bit of Markdown and HTML formating, so that would be a plus as well.

Notepad Plus plus has lots of cool small plugins, but I've not used these all that much except for the spellchecker, and that's on the Mac by default, so no problem there. So that's what I'm looking for. I know textedit can do some of this except for line incodings, and it can not convert textindcodings on the fly. Hope this helps, and thank you for taking the time to reply.
