I am looking for recommendations for security and antivirus programs that are accessible using VoiceOver on an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.4. I have no security program running on it right now. In a few months, I will be upgrading to the new iPhone when it becomes available. Thanks for any help and information you can provide. This is always such a helpful site.

Antivirus Apps Really Not Needed on iOS
Hi Jo,
While others (particularly security companies) may try to tell you that you simply have to have an antivirus app on your iPhone to stay secure, I very much disagree. Since Apple controls everything about its operating system...from the tiniest pieces of code down to the apps that get approved in the App Store...an antivirus app simply is not needed. Assuming you don't deliberately disable security features (say, by "jailbreaking" your device), the risk of you getting a virus on your iPhone is incredibly low.
agreed
agree with first post. also, another way to compromise the security is to download shady third party profiles through safari. so as long as you don't do that either. you should be fine.
I suggest
I strongly suggest that you get Lookout Mobile Security. Not only is it accessible, it gives great antivirus protection, and it also gives you the ability to find your device if you ever happen to lose it. It has other benefits as well if you get a Premium Account for $2.95 a month.
You're more likely to get a virus on your Mac.
Depending on how you use your phone, the likelyhood of installing the third party profiles as someone suggested, again is rare and if for some reason something seems off, going into settings, disabling the profile fixes it. I also have an addware program for the Mac that saved me when I clicke don something I shouldn't have. actually ti was a popup I thought was blocked. To the person suggesting the lookout program, with little information other then it's suppposed accessibility and a hitn of premium features, quite a bit more is needed for anyone to take theplunge. Joe, if you're upgrading in a couple of months anyway, as rumors slate the new phone being out mid September, I'd just bide your time. Hope this helped. :) Have a good one.
