Update #2 3 August

If you haven’t received an email, please accept our commiserations. However, you should probably first check your ‘Junk’ folder, just in case any email has been wrongly filed.

For one final time, we would like to publicly thank all of the wonderful people who helped to make this such a great event by donating prizes. We really couldn’t have hoped to have celebrated our birthday in greater style. The combined value of all the prizes that we have given away today exceeds US$8000! Thank you to you all!

Update 26 July

The first of our giveaways will be posted to the site tomorrow.

It’s important that you read the notes and entry instructions for each giveaway thoroughly. Doing so will make sure that your name goes into the hat and will also make things a lot easier for us.

For now, here are some important notes:

  • You can enter each giveaway only once.
  • You can enter as many of the giveaways as you wish.
  • Because of the value of the prizes involved, there will be some giveaways which if you win you will not be eligible for any of the other giveaways. This will be indicated in the notes for the relevant giveaways.

As a hint of the scale of what’s coming, there are prizes worth more than US$3000 in total up for grabs this week. We cannot stress how appreciative we are of the developers and companies who have joined with us to make this possible.

Update 24 July

We now have a number of great giveaways scheduled for every day next week (Monday through Friday). To make it easier for you to keep track of these, we’ll be using this post to provide a running list of all of the giveaway posts. Each one will be added to this list as soon as it goes live.

So, to make sure that you don’t miss out on your chance to win any of the prizes donated by the great people who have offered to join with our celebrations, you may want to bookmark this page for quick and easy reference.

Original Post

AppleVis will be celebrating its 5th birthday on 29 July, and we want you to join us at the party. The information, help and support provided by all of the wonderful people in our community has made AppleVis the invaluable resource that it is today; thus, we thought that our 5th birthday would be a great opportunity to say a big "thank you!" to everyone who has helped make AppleVis a success.

To make our 5th birthday celebration a reality, a number of wonderful developers and companies have provided us with promo codes, software licenses, accessories, iTunes Gift Cards, and discount codes to give away to members of our community during the week of our 5th birthday. We won't be providing specifics just yet, but we can say that we are thrilled by the prospect of what we will be giving away. There are many great prizes to be had, and we are certain that you won't want to miss out. So, be sure to mark in your diaries that the week commencing 27 July 2015 is "AppleVis Birthday Giveaway Week".

If you are a software developer or accessory supplier, it's not too late to join us in our celebrations. Simply send an email to [CLOSED] saying how you would like to be involved.

We look forward to seeing you for our first giveaway on 27 July. We have a great one lined up to get the celebrations started, so be sure not to miss it!

I am curious how the giveaway will work. How will winners be picked/contacted?

The full details will be revealed next week. But, essentially, we shall have a number of giveaways posted to the site each day from Monday through Friday. Each will give details of the prize and how to enter. In most cases, this will simply be a matter of sending us an email. Winners will then be selected at random and notified by email.

Looking at the giveaways that we currently have on our list, it’s going to be a great week to be on AppleVis (smile)

Since discovering this site, I have seriously made great strides in the benefits I get from my iPhone.
Happy Birthday.

A most Happy B-day AppleVis! I actually only discovered you guys a little over a year ago, but it has been a fun and productive ride indeed. Here I was, timid and less than optimistic about making the switch from Windows to the Mac platform due to hearing and reading only negative things about VoiceOver and about the Mac in general. Well, I'm happy to say that I never even realized just how wrong I was until that trip to an Apple store with a sister and our parents. Actually that's not totally true because a sighted sister of mine was able to turn on VO on her MacBook after some fiddling around. But I am absolutely blown away by the fact that a mainstream company had the brains to develop this awesome screen reader for us. AppleVis has proven to be a fantastic resource, even if problems and disagreements have occurred. I know I've yet to learn some things on my MacBook, but I've no doubt it'll continue to be a fun ride. Hopefully I can get my sister on here one of these days who is also a relatively new Mac user.

Happy 5th birthday AppleVis. May this website continue to grow.

Happy BDay Applevis. It's actually cool we share the same birth week, my BDay being the 26th. What do I do to enter the giveaway? I'd love either of today's prizes, for sure!

Hi,
I thought i would take part in the fun by getting me a pair of Aftershokz headphones and using the 10 percent off code however, this offer only seems valid for U.S and canadian customers since that's where the Aftershokz websites store ships. I can't see any international choices at all, so can i who live in Sweden use this promo code and if so how?

I don't use this website often, but always enjoy when I do. It's loaded with tons of useful information for a blind iPhone user like me. I don't have a Mac now, but if I get one I will be sure to use some of your Mac info while learning all about how it works. Thanks guys for this invaluable resource! May there be many, many more birthdays for you in the future!!

Here's yet another happy birthday to Applevis.
Thank you to the editors and contributers who make this site the great resource it is to so many people.
I think we in the applevis community should pat ourselves on the back as well for all we have done as a community.
I firmly believe that the state of accessibility in the appleverse would not be what it is today without the advocacy, education, and information that our community of dedicated apple users has brought to the table.
I love this site, and think we have a fantastic group of people here who, though we might disagree on things from time to time, are all here to help further the cause of equal accessibility to all people.
Let's keep up the great work, and here's hoping we have this much cause for celebration when we've been around for 10 years.
Best wishes, and big thanks to applevis and all the people and companies who have contributed prizes for all the awesome giveaways.

By jack on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 - 17:28

I completely agree with everything. We as a community and the Applevis team have made this site what it is and have definitely not only furthered the cause of equal access in the appleverse, but we may also be going beyond that to other universes too! Our strives for equal access may be very well encouraging others to make huge strives for equal access not just Apple, so in a way we could very well be encouraging everyone to start making strives for equal access. For five years! And this is the perfect way to celebrate this week with 40 giveaways and of course a celebration of us making the Applevis site what it is. So, yet another happy birthday Applevis, and to me because my birthday was on the 23rd not long before the celebrations started, and to Ken Downey, all in one massive celebration-giveaway week!

By SoundSchemer on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 - 17:28

You all are so lucky, I wish I'd won something. But, of course, I never win competitions hahahahahaha

Anyway, congratulations
