watchOS and Apple Watch Apps

Hello: I am receiving my new apple watch tomorrow. I was wondering if I should set it up as a new watch, or restore from my recent I cloud back up? If anyone has any advice please let me know.

Hello Cjackson,

If you're setting up your Apple Watch for the first time, you'll need to set it up as new. While there is an option in the Watch app to restore it from a backup, this only applies to backups of the Apple Watch itself; a general iCloud backup of your device won't work.

What is the best way to get the apps from my iPhone that is accessible on the apple watch on to the watch after I set up the watch as a new one?

Hi cjackson. Once you have paired your Apple Watch with your iPhone, all of this will be taken care of with the Apple Watch app on the iPhone. (Note: you must have iOS version 8.3 or higher),.
You will be offered the opportunity during setup to add all available apps to the watch, but I would probably recommend against this.
Once set up, you can use the Apple Watch app on the iPhone to manually install and uninstall apps on the Watch as you wish.
You will also be able to manage notifications and glances this way.
I would recommend checking out David Woodbridge's Apple Watch 101 series of podcasts to help get to grips with it.
Enjoy your new Watch.

Quick question fron a non apple watch owner. How do you back up yoru watch for resteraton should it need it? or if you get a new watch and you restore to that through a back up? I don't own one yet but thought I'd ask in case someone else had that question.

Take care.
