Accessibility Comments

Trying out multiple Reddit applications, I have found this one to be the most voiceover accessible and friendly. The interface is fast and intuitive, and apart from some mild button labeling issues, everything functions as expected. You have to scan around the screen with a finger to find the search field and post sorting buttons when on the front page or within a sub Reddit page, and this is the only frustrating thing I have found with the application. Those interface elements seem to be allusive and are not directly swipable from any of the main elements.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver, but the interface could be easier to navigate and use.

Hi all.
Though this app was always a decent reddit app, it is now even better.
There used to be problems with upvoting, downvoting, and replying to comments that weren't top level in threads.
A few months ago, I sent some feedback to the developer of this app. The devs contacted me, and I have been beta testing and suggesting features since then.
I am happy to say that the latest beta has some massive accessibility fixes, including a button labeling skeme for voiceover, fewer crashes, and a menu bar for each comment that is voiceover accessible.
This dev team has been really great to work with, and their responsiveness and interest in accessibility has been unparalleled in my experience.
If you have tried reddit and been discouraged before, I would encourage you to give it a try again.
One last note, I am working with the pro (ad free) version of the app.
I don't know if the ads still present a voiceover problem or not.
However, the app only cost a dollar 99 for the ad free version, and has been well worth it for me.

Awesome, I can't wait for the update. Unfortunately, I neglected to mention my experience with the advertisements in the free application. I had a pretty bad experience with inaccessible advertisements that crashed voice over on another app called Redditor and immediately sought out removing the ads from bacon reader. They did not seem to get in the way as much as they did with Redditor, but they still made the experience a little aggravating especially when attempting to navigate through comment pages.

Does anyone know how to comment on a post with baconreader?

By Devin Prater on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 - 09:56

Okay, so I've figured out how to post a comment, and to post a post to a subredit. Now reddit wants a capcha... And I spent the last credit from taptapsee on it and it failed. So now I'm pretty stuck.

It took me for ever to find the search box and when I did double tapping and split tapping on it both would not bring up a keyboard.

The search box works for me. Once you find it, double tapping on it immediately brings up the keyboard and as the search field in edit mode. I've never had it pop up without the keyboard. Are you using a Bluetooth keyboard or braille display? I'm also running this on an iPhone 5s with iOS 8 .4 .1.
The search box is indeed hard to find when you are in a subreddit page. If you tap on the screen or move your finger around and encounter the sorting options, eat. Gee. Sort by hot, swiping to the left will bring you straight to the search box. If you can't find it and you only encounter the links in the Reddit page, the search box is all the way at the bottom just passed the load more button. That is a little more frustrating to get to since you have to get through all the links, especially in grid mode.

Anyone else having difficulty creating new posts? I can type in text, but nothing happens when I hit the Post button. Any ideas on how to get around this? Is this an accessibility issue or a problem without VoiceOver?

By Misty Dawn on Saturday, November 23, 2019 - 09:56

Also, anyone know where to find drafts of posts you’ve created?

I've got an odd issue. I'm subscribed to the XBox insiders subreddit. However it does not show up when I tap the at subredit tab at the lower left. Kind of strange ish don't you think? How can I solve this? I bookmarked it but yeah I'd love to see ***all*** of the subreddits I'm subscribed to. without searching.

Woops? Messed up. So here's how to fix the problem, at least fo rme.

1. Tap the subreddit tab
2. Tap edit.
3. Tap sort by ABC
4. Tap done and your subreddits and friends should be there., mixed, but there.
