Opinions sought on the best iOS YouTube app?

The subject says it all. I wasn't a fan of the official youtube app when it first came out, but I'm hoping it's improved. I've been using an app called Mctube, but it stopped working some time ago. I've been doing youtube on my mac, so haven't given an iOS app much thought, but I'd like to get back into youtube on my iPhone.

Should I go with the official youtube ap or something else? I want the most functionality possible, but also the best voiceover support, naturally.

Thanks in advance.

I would honestly try YouPlayer. It works pretty nice!

You can't go wrong with Youplayer. I paid for the full version and I'm very happy with it!

If memory serves me well, the official YouTube app actually got better once it stopped being automatically included in iOS. I think it might have had a bit of a rocky start during the transition, but it's pretty good these days. It's the only YouTube app I've ever used and I've never wanted anything better. That being said, I tend to favor official apps on my iOS device anyway, because they're the least likely to be broken when the organization upgrades their platform.

The regular official youtube app works fine. Im on it all the time.

I would have recommended YouPlayer up until a few months ago, when it started randomly throwing me into the app store during playback. If this bug has been dealt with in the most recent update, then I'd download it again. Otherwise, I use an app called ProTube.

I use the official YouTube app with VoiceOver and it is extremely accessible and easy to use. It has a nice clean interface, it is easy to search, it is also easy to play and control videos.

As others have stated, I much prefer you player! It is simple, and allows all the navigation that I need for an app, it's extremely accessible, and just plain works! I can't praise this app enough

I find youplayer a bit buggy at times, but it's still my favorite. I also have the full version. Maybe the best part about it is no ads. Also, each search result is all in one place, so each swipe takes you to the next result. In some apps, you have to swipe four or more times to get through each one. This app gets better all the time.

I used YouPlayer for a long time and even paid for the upgrade, but since a recent update, I no longer use it. I logged out to switch accounts and after doing so, I have never been able to log back in. The log in screen does not load and the app becomes unresponsive.

Because of this, I can no longer recommend YouPlayer for new users.

You might try uninstalling and reinstalling it. I had to reset my phone last week, which meant reinstalling everything. Youplayer logged in just fine. There was an update recently which fixed a lot of bugs.

I used to like YouPlayer. However, it has problems. One of the most egregious is that if one has a large number of favorites, it's difficult to scroll through the entire list.
However, I downloaded the latest update mentioned in the comments on this thread and the memory-scrolling bug seems to have been fixed. Also, I have encountered certain videos that the standard Youtube app play well but that YouPlayer will not handle.
I used YouPlayer for quite a while but have gone back to the standard Youtube iOS app which is quite accessible once one becomes used to its quirks.
IMO there is *no* perfect iOS Youtube app.

No problems with you player and or favorites. It also might depend on the phone you are using and the knowledge of iOs you have. I would contact the developer of youplayer as they are very good at fixing bugs and taking suggestions.

I no longer trust the youtube app as google just is not ever going to be there in terms of accessibility in my book.

The YouTube app works well and has the added advantage of being a familiar interface if you're hanging out with friends and they're trying to do anything on your phone. Maybe it's just me, but I try to do the same things my sighted peers do when it's possible and won't make my life diffickult, and the official YouTube app works and doesn't really have any major problems. That said, I haven't ever used YouPlayer, so I'm by no means saying it's not worthwhile, just that the YouTube app works well and makes sense.

I try not to go official if I can help it. I'm the odd one out and recommend better apps then the official, you know, for competition? There was also McTube for YouTube, but that I think got pulled. You could even download videos off line.

Has anyone had problems with favorites and subscriptions in YouPlayer? Here are the issues I'm having.
1. Although I'm signed into my YouTube account, when I bring up the favorites tab, nothing shows up. I've saved favorites before, so I don't know why they're not showing up.
2. Not all of my subscriptions are showing up. I have quite a few subscriptions, but I'm only seeing the newest ten or so. I also have this problem in the official app, so I'm not entirely sure this issue is just a YouPlayer one.

Thanks,
Shersey

It's a pretty self-explanatory interface, but I can understand wanting to use what other people are. YouPlayer is pretty popular, though. :)

Thanks,

No i don't have the issues for which you speak. I think youtube changed their api, so wait until an update comes out.

Good luck.

I've seen this behavior before but not for a year or so. Have you tried signing out of your Google account and back again? Have you reset your iPhone and/or deleted/reinstalled the YouPlayer app?
I suspect all the answers to the above are YES so haven't further ideas. Both the YOutube and YouPlayer apps are behaving themselves at the moment.

I just downloaded YouPlayer, and I really like the tab based interface. It was a lot easier to search for videos than with the official app. The only problem I've noticed is that two finger double tapping doesn't pause playback. You actually have to hit the pause button. Either way though, the fact that there's an actual search tab and the absence of ads makes this a winner for me.

So, even though you sign into YouTube with a Gmail address--because YouTube is owned by Google--you can choose how you want to be known on YouTube. I had two options, and the first time I used YouPlayer, I chose one, and I must have signed out some time after that. When I signed in again, I didn't realize that I picked the other username choice. So, that's what went wrong. I have now resubscribed to the channels that I subscribed to when I was using the second username. I used the first username to resubscribe, as I had all my favorites and lots more subscriptions under there. Now I just have to make a note of which username I use if I want/need to sign out of YouTube for some reason lol.

So, just be careful of what username you pick, and make sure you stick with it! :)

Thanks,
Shersey

Hi there. on a similar thread to this one, someone mentioned an app called pro tuber or pro tube. i haven't tried it though but according to them, it's very accessible.

I started using foxtube because you use to be able to download vids, but that's not aloud anymore.
The other must have is being able to increase the speed of playback.
the headset controls work while the phone is locked, but sometimes it will lose focus and begin playing from your music.
I use it as my primary you tube player, and I've just recently paid for the latest version.
