Hi,
mine pronounces it like that too so it's not just your phone. I'm using the USA English female voice. I forgot the name. Note though, that if you type the word in all caps it will pronounce it correctly. Now I'm wondering: has it always pronounced it like that?
We are talking about a life and death situation, or at least be prepared for something, so ti would be natural that all in caps would speak it correctly. Failing that, it's just something odd that voiceover does. Unsure how this was really forum posting worthy? To each their own.
Lol I had to try it for myself. Strange. I'm curious to see if other devices who use the Samantha voice have that issue (not iDevices, but maybe anyone who uses her in conjunction with Jaws or Android).
The mispronunciation of tornado by Samantha started after an iOS update sometime last year. Before that update, which was 7 point something, the word tornado was correctly pronounced, but then it suddenly changed. I think Samantha is mistakenly treating the word as a Spanish word.
Alex pronounces tornado correctly, by the way. I haven't tried other voices.
Just another of the many text-to-speech quirks we all have gotten used to, or not.
Someone was wondering on here if Samantha did the same with jaws, I tried it and no it's fine with jaws, and you are correct it started after ios7 something. Some pronounciations can be amuzing.
Ever since iOS 7.1 came out in March 2014 Samantha would always say torado instead of tornado. As a writing, they still haven't fix this bug. I hope this clears it up for you guys.

Haha I never noticed it

Thats funny. Didnt notice it until i read this and tried it. If u put it in all caps it says it right. Lol.
Logic suggests that it might be in all caps?

Shall we dance?
With sincere apologies to George and Ira Gershwin...
I say TorNayDoe,
VO says Tornado,
Potato, PoeTartO,
Tomato, ToeMartO,
Let's call the whole thing off...
Oh good!
Thank goodness! It's not just me, and I wasn't the only one pedantic enough to point it out. You have no idea how much better that makes me feel.
Want to clear something up

Daniel
Daniel says Tornado right. You will be able to fix this in IOS10.
