Hazel is your personal housekeeper, organizing and cleaning folders based on rules you define. Hazel can also manage your trash and uninstall your applications.

Organize your files using a familiar rule interface. Filter on the file's name, type, date, the site or email address it came from and more. And do more than just file. You can set color labels, Spotlight keywords and comments and even archive files. Hazel also cleans, sporting options to clean out incomplete and duplicate downloads.

In addition, Hazel can manage your Trash for you, relieving you of having to empty it yourself.

Accessibility Comments

After seeing VoiceOver mentioned in the release notes, I thought that I would give this one a try.

I have to be upfront and say that it’s probably not an application for the faint-hearted or perhaps even newcomers to VoiceOver, but it is usable. As proof, I have various rules setup, including some to automatically rename and move photos whenever I insert the SD card from our family camera. There were a few pauses along the way 0 most notably when trying to figure out how to interact with the elements used to create file and folder names based upon the date that the photos were taken. I wanted to customise this somewhat, and it took some trial and error to figure out the process.

If you have the time and patience to learn your way around this application, it’s a very powerful tool.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver, but the interface could be easier to navigate and use.

Hazel and Future Accessibility

I am working with Paul to improve VoiceOver compliance. There are a few dead buttons in the Folders pane which are precluded from the tab loop but not for us who use the left and right arrow keys. There are also a few other minor issues but these should be fixed in due time.

Hi,

i tried this app a number of years ago, but couldn't get any rules I made to work. Maybe I was working with hardware dependencies as triggers? Anyway, back then, there were several more unlabeled buttons and weird behavior, and Paul was very quick to pick up on them and investigate ways to fix/outright fix them. I've been meaning to fiddle more with the app when I have more time. :)
