Have you tried double tapping each of the numbers when entering your Passcode? Maybe your typing style is set to Standard Typing rather than Touch Typing (I'm assuming that that's what you normally use).

It seems that iPhones have been having trouble with passcodes just lately. My passcode was randomly changed a couple weeks ago, which resulted in a total reset and my needing to set everything up again. The only thing I could do was contact Apple support about the issue; most of the session was spent convincing them that I did not forget my passcode.

I need this piece of crap to work!!!! i am new to apple products and so far i am very disappointed!!! I paid $2,500.00 for this Mac book pro and still shake my head feeling how could i be so stupid. The cost compared to the aggravation of trying to learn how different everything works is just not there. Windows 7 is so user friendly and i still use my old Toshiba when i am pressed for time, and my galaxy note 3 was a lot less trouble some than this iPhone 5s . This damn thing has got me locked out when i needed it the most. 2hrs ago i planned on leaving Michigan to my new home in florida. Now i have no phone or access to important data that is locked in the device. And no one has any knowledge of fixing this bug. I was led to believe by changing over to apple i would be getting the best products and support this planet has to offer, HA, HA WHAT AN OVER PRICED ANNOYING FEELING OF HELPLESSNESS !!!!

This is not a bug. User error does not make something a piece of crap.
Some people like Windows and some like Mac. There's certainly nothing more inherently user friendly about Windows. It's just a learning curve if you move from one to the other.
As for the phone, you're either entering the wrong code or as someone said above you're not using the keypad entry correctly. Can you describe exactly what you're doing and hearing from VoiceOver?
Alternatively if you have entered the wrong code numerous times, then you may be locked out, which would require a reset through iTunes.

the phone is locked nothing does anything at all. everything has a box out-lined around it! ican't even slide to shut it down. when i push the home button the screen says slide to unlock. when i do this the slide to unlock gets outlined and nothing happens, when i dubble click, the passcode screen comes up with an outlined box appearing at each number when pushed, then again nothing happens. when i double clink again NOTHING!, when i triple click the magnifier comes up again with the outlined box around the numbers , again nothing happens. if i push and hold, the Siri not availible (connect to the inter net) comes up, but i cannot connect because i cannot access the damn phone!!!

when i push the numbers the little round circles at the top do nothing! i do believe there suppose to do something even if your putting in the wrong pass code, like turn white as i recall.

Hmm. Try a hard reset. This is done by holding down the power and home buttons at the same time for ten seconds. Then reboot

some how i missed the whole iTunes thing. i was able to turn the voice over "OFF". when your being delayed 2+hours it is easy to become frustrated (and lash out calling the thing a piece of crap) But still i cannot understand about getting locked out of my phone and then having to go access a computer with itunes to reverse what i had done using the phone! I know that i have many things to learn and at age 67 by this time tomorrow i will have already forgotten everything i learned today! Ha,Ha I fought the idea of even getting a computer for many years, because of this type of aggravation. So three years ago i finally decided after i retired to purchase one. Well last year my beautiful wife of 32yrs meet someone on the internet and now here i am all alone in the house i built for us with my own two hands, full of these wonderful electronic gadgets and heart so empty and broken it hurts so much i can no longer live here. so sorry if i offended anyone about calling these things that destroyed my world a piece of crap.

If you absolutely must do a reset of the phone, when you're in the initial setup screens and the choice comes to enter a passcode, say no. Just say no because some folks just don't like them. I use it because it works for me, but having a passcode on your iDevice is not a requirement. This way, when you get to unlock your phone you won't have to enter a passcode, or in the case of the iPhone 6 use a fingerprint to unlock the phone.

You can also turn of passcode in settings, go to settings\Touch ID & Passcode. The phone will ask you for your passcode, then you just toggle the on button to off.

I only have a five, but don't you need a passcode to get the censor to work in the home button? I am pretty sure you do. Otherwise I'd put the passcode to off, but i'mpretty sure you need it to unlock.

Yes you're right Siobhan. Good point though Toonhead. I disabled it altogether on my mum's phone because she managed to get herself locked out of her phone and I had to restore it to factory settings to sort it out

I was in a situation a few weeks ago where a good friend of mine got a shiny new iPhone 6. Just a few hours after we got it all set up, for some reason she had either a. entered her passcode wrong, or b. not been able to get her fingerprint to work, so she was locked out of her iPhone completely. We had to bring out the big guns, and use DFU mode to restore it to factory settings, enter all her info again and restore from an iCloud backup. Yipes! Luckily that only took a bit of time but we had made mistakes earlier in the day so this was our third time doing this and luckily, it worked well. Just for those confused about what DFU mode is, it's basicly recovery mode for the iPhone. You must use iTunes to get it to work and it's kind of a tricky process. I had to look up on google exactly how to do it but we got it done. Wooo!!! What a night! I'm just glad all is well now on this particular topic.

For info dfu mode stands for device firmware update. You do need to use iTunes but I can through a lot of practice and having to do this as a beta tester some years ago restore in DFU mode. I can now mostly successfully restore from DFU mode in about 20 minutes, then I wait for my phone to restore from my encrypted back up.

DFU mode is useful when selling a device as it gets rid of all content. Just be sure to turn the find my phone feature off before placing your phone in DFU mode to restore and ship.

blessings.
