Hi, I was wondering if someone could give me instructions on how to do netflicks audio description on osx? I don't want to use my iPhone for netflicks.

All you should have to do is sign out and then sign back in and the audio description track should be available. Start the show, and then go to language options and one of them should be English audio description. Hope that helps!

I can't find language options. I'm using osx yosemite with the latest safari.

Accessibility really has fallen when it comes to safari and netflix. Sure I don't watch instant stuff much, I leave that to family members, I went on to check out the dare devil episode. I clicked on something, it started. No options even if full screen. I'm suspecting the netflix threw us a bone and gave us IOs capatability with the audio description or maybe Windows users might see it, but for us Mac users we have got absolutely nothing. The only suprirising thing i actually wanted to give this a try, since normally I am disinterested in the audio description as i feel for the most part it takes away from the show or movie. Good luck tech lover.

Hi.

Nope, no luck on either of those platforms. Windows, yes you can find the menus for language, but good luck trying to click on them. IOS? You are able to click on the language and change it, Dare Devil in French anyone? But I couldn't find the audio description track at all.

Hi, I am happy to say that my family and I were able to watch Dare Devil with audio description using my oldest Niece's Xbox. I am quite thrilled and commend Netflix for starting on the road to accessibility and Audio Description. There are 17 episodes in the first season of this series. I intend on watching it all the way through. I haven't tried using my Mac Mini or Windows to see if the language options work with screen readers. But, after what previous commenters have posted, I won't give it a try until things are fixed. We've been wanting Netflix to add audio description to their service for some time now and, as I've read, we've fought with them quite a bit to take this step forward and am glad they have.

Well wonderful. It looks like I'm out of luck. I can't watch with audio descriptions. oh well...

Hi,
I got it working on my iOS Netflix.
Find the show. Then towards top right corner there is an area where there is "languages" menu that lists both audio options and subtitles. Swipe the list; english with audio description is towards the top of the audio options. Once you have selected it, it starts immediately.
If you canʻt find english with audio description, quit the app, reauthenticate, or try loggin in as a different netflix user.
Here is how I got mine working https://audioboom.com/boos/3090637-getting-daredevil-to-play-on-netflix-with-audio-description (just the audio of searching the options)

According to an email list I belong to, some Netflix customers have called their support department and were told that a flag on their account was not set for audio description. Although audio description has been hit and miss for me, I haven't needed to call support. I don't have the number handy, but I expect it will be easy to locate and it might be worth a try for someone who is unable to get audio description working. The best experience for me as been on my Apple TV. Once I got audio description working on my iPhone, I was able to activate the "Continue Watching" option and have audio description begin playing on the next episode I watched.

For the OP and anyone who might be sans IOS device or Apple TV, the combination of the latest stable bild of Chrome with the Flix Plus Chrome extension on Mac OS X 10.10.3 and 10.9.5 provides keyboard access to the Netflix player, including the language / audio description menu, play / pause, mute, FF, Rewind, etc. Instructions can be found in my original post here:

Just spoke with 2 different reps at netflicks. Rep 1 indeckated that according to what tear 3 had just told him, there's a audio discripsion black out, with no e.t.a. on a fix, but to call again Thersday. rep 2, seemed more helpful, he said he would try n on there apple tv, and after holding for several minutes, he came back to say, that it didn't work on his end, and that there was a problem with I o s devices. I am mad because Monday evening, I spent 1 hour on the phone wit several netflicks reps and never did resolve audio discripsion on my I phone 4s. The final assumcion was that because I am using I O S 7.1.2. on my 4s, the audio discripcion will not work. Wondering if anyone has gotten it to work on any device? Note in all fairness to the net flicks rep, she did give me a month credit after I had asked for it. Ps the movie I was trying to watch is noah.

Hi. This is great news but the iPad version of the Netflix app is totally unusable and I have to use the iPhone instead. Are Netflix going to automatically add audio description to new titles? Their movie database doesn't offer much as I searched for 10 titles yesterday and not one of them showed up and they were all films that were released within the last 5 years. It seems that Netflix is more geared for TV shows that doesn't really interest me.

They're adding more titles to the list finally. There is a link by the end of the netflix page that says audio-description that shows all available titles. I checked Canada and the US and there are some interesting titles like Marco Polo, Black Hawk Down (US only), The clone wars, Bruce allmighty (Canada only), and many more. Would be interesting to see European and Latin American regions since they have different contents.

Regarding enabling AD, the only option for now is google chrome and the extension mentioned before.

By kool_turk on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

Speaking of star wars the clone wars, has anyone managed to get description to work with that series?

I know it's listed as having audio description, but I, and a few people on twitter are unable to get it to work.

I tried a few of their tv shows and one movie, that being Robo Cop, the remake, not the 80s version.

All of those appear to work here in australia, only star wars isn't described.

If it's just the one episode, then why have it listed as being described?

By Toonhead on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

It's my understanding that the cloan wars has audio description, but not until the later seasons of the show. This explains why when I went to watch it from season 1 episode 1, no audio description was present. I asked folks about it and that's what I was told. So try watching from later seasons. As foraudio description in general keep in mind guys Netflix isn't going to have audio description on every movie and tv show they have. It's just a select few titles to start, and the list grows all the time. So if you're looking on Netflix for movies in particular, you're probably looking at the wrong thing at least currently. They seem to be putting most of their audio description on tv shows for now. I hope it expands to movies too at some point.

By Raul on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

Of course there only have Description on few titles, and they vary from region to region. As I said they added an audio-description link to see all the titles that offer that option.
Now I think is a good time to revisit Marco Polo, a totally visual series

By kool_turk on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

It appears you're correct, only seasons 5 and 6 are described.

I do hope they eventually describe the earlier seasons, cause it's kind of misleading when they say something is described, only for it to be later seasons.

At least have something like, Star wars: The clone Wars, Seasons 5 and 6.

That way you know what to expect.

Unless they do plan on eventually describing the lot, one can only hope.

Broocklin nine nine, seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix Canada with Audio Description

By jrjolley (not verified) on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

I managed to get the audio description to stick once I had watched some of the daredevil on an Apple TV 3rd generation. When I go to watch anything on the audio description page on netflix.com, all the narrative tracks are being played properly.

As an aside, it's really impressive the amount of work Netflix have done in such a short time, really amazed by it.

By Raul on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

One show I'm waiting is Doctor Who. It is already described by the bbc, maybe they can add that track to the netflix videos...

By crunch-o-mattic on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

it looks like it's not going to work on the I phone 4s with I O S 7.1.2. seems to work fine with the I phone 6 I O s 8.3, and on the apple tv.It would be cool if we could serch on netflics for Movies with a d. Glad there adding the a d tracks. My hats off to all involved with this effert.

By Joseph Westhouse on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

It's more than 5 and 6 cause I'm on Season 4 right now and have been watching with AD since I saw it was available, which I think was before I finished Season 2. Maybe go back and try the earlier seasons again? I know there's at least AD in part of Season 3, but I think I was still in Season 2 when I started it...

By Raul on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

Maybe they're adding AD to previous seasons? Finally it seems they're doing their homework

By Raul on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

Orange is the new black, House of Cards, Suits, Pitch Perfect, the wolf of wall street, anchorman 2, the bourne legacy

By kool_turk on Thursday, May 28, 2015 - 17:30

I'm not sure if they were going to add the earlier episodes, or whether I contacted support and told them.

Netflix support, at least here in Australia is excellent.

The guy put in a request to have the earlier episodes described, and a few days later, I checked season 1, episode 1, and got description.
