fully accessible, one slight issue after selecting the story missions option is that if you flick to the right from the back button directly after selecting the story missions option you immediately land on the first mission of season 1, rather than the buttons for selecting what season you want to play. If you then flick to the left from that first mission you then find the buttons for the various seasons. also on the radio screen the options for the different radio seasons are not identified as buttons but are read correctly by VoiceOver.

I installed this application but nothing works! I run it and there is no way to get any sound or text command, so I do not know where to go with, or without, voiceover! I'll write to developer to know how to use it

By Kristen on Monday, April 23, 2012 - 14:49

I also just downloaded/installed this app and I can't seem to access anything through Voice Over. Swiping my finger over the screen illicits no response other than that noise you get when there's nothing there for VO. Also tried flicking left and right - nothing. Is it possible a recent update rendered this inaccessible or am I missing something? I heard about this app in the most recent podcast on iBlink Radio, so I assumed it was useable.

I am using the latest version, 1.2 with voice over and everything in the app reads fine. I would suggest try removing the app from your phone and reinstalling as it is accessible. I have been in touch with the developers about making the app completely accessible, and they say the part for upgrading the base will be accessible in the next few months. At the moment, once you complete the first level and it says level 2 hospital required, you can't expand the base because this part of the app is not accessible yet. The only way I have found around this at the moment is to uncompress the files contained in the app and listen to the mp3 files on my computer, which is far from ideal but I wasn't happy to just be left hanging. Still, at least the developers say they are working on accessibility. I suppose if you have some sighted help around, you could get them to put your hospital up.

I don't have this app, but if I have to do track again I may have to get it. There were some comments that said that setting up buildings and assigning objects to them wasn't accessible with VoiceOver. Well, I was looking at a list of accessible iPad and iPhone games, and this game was there. It gave the same problem, but someone said that if you created a zombylink account online with them on there websight, that you could put up buildings and assign supplies on the websight, and that that was accessible. This was awhile ago though, and as I said, I don't have the app, so I don't know if it will work, but its worth trying.

By Kelly Sapergia on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 - 14:49

This game sounds interesting, but I was wondering if anyone's tried it on an iPod Touch? If so, how well does it work? I know they mention using GPS in the description, but the iPod doesn't have that capability.
Hi, If you enable zombie chases during your runs, you have to have GPS. I only know this because when I first got the game I tried doing it with airplane mode so calls wouldn't interrupt me. I had enabled zombie chases and so I got an error. I'm guessing that if you don't enable zombie chases, it will work ok without GPS. Is the iPod Touch capable of that motion detection that tracks your steps? I'm honestly not sure why GPS is needed for zombie chases, because I do this whole game just running in place or running in my apartment. Hope that helps and I hope the app works for you. It's really fun! Before you know it your run is over.

By rdfreak on Saturday, February 23, 2013 - 14:49

I just installed this app and when I first opened it, I got nothing as well, but then i removed it from app switcher and opened it again and then it worked; not sure why this is but that's what ya do, as others have also said. :)

By Katrine on Saturday, March 23, 2013 - 14:49

I just installed the app yesterday and this is an excelent app! I am, however, going to write to the developer about the home screen and the tutorial both of which are still completely inaccessible. Also, VO seems to be reacting slower within this app so you get a delay of aprox one second from you touch something until it is spoken. It hasn't been mentioned before here so I'm not sure if it might be an IOS 6 issue..

By alex wallis on Saturday, March 23, 2013 - 14:49

Hi, I don't think there is any point writing to the developers. This is because they have already announced that when zombies run 2 goes live in April it will be fully VoiceOver accessible, including the base builder. I think if we write any more to the developers we will be pushing against an open door, and could risk annoying them. Zombies run 2 as I understand it is going to be an upgrade to the existing zombies run app, and won't be a totally new app.
Hi Alex, I agree. However, when I wrote to the developer I was not aware of a new version being released despite having checked here and on the Zombies, Run! support site. So sharing this kind of news might be a good idea. For anyone interested, here's a link to a blog post on the VO accessible new version which I got from the developers who seem to really make an effort on accessibility. http://blog.zombiesrungame.com/post/43403504393/making-zombies-run-2-accessible

By alex wallis on Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 14:49

Hi, they have now begun to release season 2 missions, and I must say accessibility is great, I actually believe the app is fully accessible. This entry could probably do with a serious update, as the version number is definitely out of date for starters. below is the change log for version 2.1, and its really easy to use, in particular the base builder is definitely worth checking out. The interface looks a bit different, to zombies run 1, gone are the supplies and codecs tabs, and there are no problems with that inaccessible tutorial when you first start the game. I actually wonder if this should be considered for a hall of fame nomination due to the way accessibility has really been improved by the developers, as they haven't just changed a few things but I believe have had to implement hole new features just to make it accessible. What's New in Version 2.1 - Improved accessibility across the entire game. - New fully accessible "top-down" base builder mode. - A tutorial is displayed for first-time users - If you played missions in version 1 of the app, we have now restored your progress on the Season 1 mission screen.

What's New in Version 2.1.1

- You now receive one material when you complete a season one mission for the first time. Just upgrade to receive materials for all of the missions you've already completed, then get building! The zombies are coming...
- Your headset now tells you when zombies start chasing you!
- Vastly improved ZombieLink behaviour.
- Lots of small improvements and fixes in the base builder, as well as a fix for the "tiny base" issue experienced by some ZombieLink users.
- You can now see which missions you ran when you review your run logs.

By alex wallis on Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 14:49

Hi, rregrettably I have to mention an accessibility problem with this app, this relates to problems selecting to play missions in season 2. Once you have played the first few missions there will be problems selecting to play missions, when you double tap them the mission doesn't open and you are thrown back to the screen for season 1 missions. The work around for this problem is to try scrolling the screen with a 3 finger swipe up away from the home button in portrait mode. However doing this doesn't always work, and as of today with in the past few minutes a new mission pack has come out, and the scrolling problem is even worse. I have begun having problems with my focus bouncing around the screen when I try to select missions and it is just a bit of a mess. I have emailed the developers about this and they have been trying to help me so far with not much luck. I would encourage people with this same issue to also email them. The problem only seems to start after about mission 4 up til that point accessing content is easy. I suspect this issue is going to grow worse as more content is added unless it can be fixed.

By Ro on Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 14:49

I'm guessing I have that strange focus issue too. I'm still way back in season 1 and after I signed into Zombie LInk, the season 1 screen shows the missions I've completed but when I double tap the mission I'm on, it just jumps back to the top of the screen. A sighted Android user said missions have to be downloaded? When I checked the download manager in settings, it has an empty list. He said on his Android, a menu comes up with options to download, so I wonder if something fancy is butting heads with Voiceover. I too have emailed the developers who are always so incredibly awesome about helping and making this app accessible. Has anyone come up with a fix for this issue? For me, any kind of swiping just does nothing. I'm so bummed!

By alex wallis on Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 14:49

Hi, for downloading the missions you are prompted to download if you tap on an individual mission that hasn't been downloaded yet. The download manager is used to delete missions that you have downloaded and want to delete. If you delete a mission that you have downloaded and completed that's fine it still shows as completed. As for the focus issue the only thing I have found is to scroll the screen with 3 finger swipes and try tapping the mission you want to play, I find that depending on the mission I want to play different numbers of swipes are needed, so the further down the list of missions you are you may have to scroll the screen so its scrolled as far as it can go. Each time you scroll the screen it says for example rows 2 to 4 of 6, or whatever, this value will change each time you scroll the screen. Lets hope the developers can come up with a solution for this.
Hi all, I'm from Six to Start. We're aware of this problem and we are submitting a new version of Zombies, Run! to Apple shortly that will include a fix. As usual, this will need to be reviewed by Apple so I can't say when it'll be out, but we certainly want to fix this and we think we have.
Ok it made sense that time, the scrolling, and it totally worked! Yay! You have no idea how much this threw my day today, not being able to run when I was all prepared to. :) Thank you!!!!

What's New in Version 2.2 We've brought your base to life! Zombies may attack your base overnight after runs, depending on factors like your defence rating and morale. The good news is that you’ll receive gifts from people in the base, who’ll give you fresh supplies. Radio Mode has returned - and with it come a massive update of radio segments! That’s right - Radio Abel (and Radio New Tomorrow) are back on the air. In this version, also: - You can jump straight to the next mission from the home screen. - You can estimate your distance run when using the accelerometer, and we’ve redesigned the tracking/distance estimation screens. - When not using GPS for tracking, you can correct the distance calculated by the app when you end the mission (useful for treadmills). - After finishing a mission, you now see a list of the new buildings you’ve unlocked for Abel. - Fixed a bug causing the app to sometimes continue tracking when the mission is paused. - Fixed a bug that would stop runners in certain timezone from syncing their runs.

Hi all, Just curious do people experience an issue where they can't build on certain cells in there base? I have a problem where I can't build on any of the row 5 cells in my base, the cells don't respond to double taps. I have tried scrolling the screen with no success, I have been in contact with the zombies run developers but so far no solution seems to have presented itself. This means in order to build more stuff on my base I have to keep expanding the base which is annoying as I have several cells just sitting doing nothing.

By rosey on Saturday, November 23, 2013 - 14:49

just curious, in podcast a Rebok treadmill is used. Do I have to have a certain kind of treadmill to use the app with treadmill or exactly does it work?

By Cyberia on Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 14:49

This looks fantastic, but will it work if you dont have a playlist? Could you use a streaming service like Itunes Radio instead?

By Roxann Pollard on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

I have used this app for three runs on my treadmill and I have a couple of questions: 1. Primarily, I need to know how far I have ran in miles and I want the interval training aspect via the zombie chases. Today, for example, I have my tracking options set for GPS and zombie chases turned on. It shows I ran for only 0.11 kilometers, not the miles option previously mentioned, and that I ran for 41 minutes. Apparently the tracking isn't working. Also, no zombie chases have occurred. 2. In the base building section, I don't understand how to switch between the "isometric" view and the "top-down" view. Which is more accessible for the VO user? Finally, I don't understand how to distribute the supplies collected. Any assistance is appreciated. thanks.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

Hi Roxann, I can certainly help with your issues you are having. So, firstly about your tracking issues if you are in doors and on a tredmill you need to use the accelerometer option to track your runs not the gps option. This is because gps actually tracks you as your location changes so you would use this option if you are running outside in a park for example. However accelerometer measures steps you take I believe so it doesn't matter that your location spacially doesn't change. Now on to using miles for measuring distance if you go on to the more tab then into settings you have an option there to set announcement of how far you have run and another option to set if miles or kilometres are used when reporting distance. Finally about the base builder, I am not sure if this is right but I believe that when VoiceOver is enabled we automatically use the most accessible view, I certainly haven't found a way to change the view we see in the base builder. Regarding distribution of supplies we don't actually have to distribute supplies any more instead we simply put up buildings in the base builder using supplies and materials we gather, putting up buildings I believe does affect some audio we hear in the game but doesn't ultimately influence mission or storyline outcome which is actually fixed in season 2. However I believe that in season 3 according to the developers the player will have decisions to make as part of the game. I hope this has been helpful and if you have further questions please ask.

By Roxann Pollard on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

Thanks for responding so quickly Alex. So if I'm understanding you correctly, if I'm using my treadmill then there is no way to get the amount of miles traveled, correct?

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

No I think the accelerometer should still be able to track how many miles you have run. All I can do is suggest enable run tracking with accelerometer rather than gps and see what happens. Maybe try turning on the distance feedback in settings and see what happens.
In the settings area, I have it set to announce my distance and time travel periodically. I have it set for miles, too. I have changed it from GPS to accelerometer. I will see how it goes tomorrow. I am so excited to have found this app. Finally, something that will help me to measure my distance keep track of time ran, and put a game inside of the app, too. How much better could it get for us?

By Roxann Pollard on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

This morning's run showed me the number of steps taken and time spent running. However, during the run, although I have the distance and time button turned on and the zombie chases enabled, I did not receive any distance indicators during the run and no zombie chases occurred. So my question remains the same... How can I get my distance in miles and the have zombie chases occur? I have the accelerometer feature turned on, with my stride length set, but it only gives number of paces when I'm looking for miles traveled. Is this simply not possible? Thanks for any help.

By alex wallis on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

I don't know what to suggest then apart from emailing the official support address, perhaps zombie chases only work with gps tracking in which case as I say gps tracking is no good for a tredmill. hopefully the proper zombies run support can answer your questions.

By Roxann Pollard on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

Thanks for the help, anyway. Some of my issues were straightened out from this forum. I will now email the developers with my questions. Should I find out a fix to my problem, I will update you on this forum. Thanks again.

By Roxann Pollard on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

For those who use the zombie chases feature of the app, I was wondering if you could tell me how fast/slow you need to go to start/stop the chase. The help section indicates "18 KM" on the slow side and "3.5 KM" on the fast side. It seems to me that the "18 KM" mention in help may be a type-o. I believe it's missing a decimal. Currently, my fastest speed is 3.5 MPH. I have used the app for six days now without any chases, though the button is turned on. Just curious to know whether my speed isn't fast enough yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

By Justin on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

Hi, From what I remember in a previous version, zomby chases requires GPS. If I know what I'm talking about the miles announcement feature requires GPS also, but I'm not exactly sure. TC.

Hi Runner Fives!

There's been an update out for a week or so but I was waiting for others to say it was safe to update. today i realized maybe everyone else was too so I took the plunge and it's all still accessible. yay!!!!

I haven't gone into much with the app to check out changes and what not since I just wanted to make sure the game still works and it totally does. The developers of this app are freaking awesome!

Hi. I have been using zombies run for the past few days, and I can't get it to repair my defense tower. I double tap on the tower and it goes back to the home screen. also, It won't let me build on some cells, it either sayd dimbed, or says the cell is selected and won't let me do anything. Help? Thanks!

By Jenna on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 14:49

It is possible to do zombie chases with excellaromitor on.it works fine for me. I'm not sure how to help you fix it though. Try adjusting your stride length in the settings for excellaromitor.

By Mark P on Friday, May 23, 2014 - 14:49

Hi runner 5's, I do not understand why the total distance of a ran mission is not displayed, even though I have put in my estimated stride distance. The work around is to get Siri to calculate and convert the total steps completed into miles but why have the stride settings as an option?
By the way, with version 3.0.2, the interval training missions are great to use on a bike trainer as there are no chases. I just use the gears set to low for walking, middle for jogging and top for flat out sprintting into that kill box! Great stuff!

By Cory K on Monday, June 23, 2014 - 14:49

Hey all,

For those of you using a treadmill, how did you measure your stride? Trying to set this up so I can use it.

By Imaginingstuff on Monday, March 23, 2015 - 14:49

I am having the defense tower issue where I can't repair my tower. When I double tap on it it goes back to the home screen. This happens with my communications and armoury also. Any help would be great!

What's New in Version 4.0

Get ready, Runner 5. It’s time to save the world, one more time.

Raise the gates: this is our biggest update ever! How big? We’re now free-to-play! You’ve been telling your friends about Zombies, Run! for years. Now
it's easier than ever for them to help you defend Abel Township.

Existing players (which is pretty much all of you): Your support has kept us going for the past three years. Your season pass purchases, your love of our
story and our characters, your feedback and wonderful words of support. You are the engine behind Zombies, Run! So we’re now giving you access to every
single mission up to the end of Season 3 - plus Interval Training and Race Missions and all 150+ story missions. For free.

Season 4: Our new season is packed full of thrills, scares, laughs, and feels. We think it’s our best season yet. You can unlock one mission every week
for free, or upgrade to Pro Membership for unlimited access. Because you’ve supported us, Pro Membership costs only $7.99 a year ($19.99 for new players).

Auto-play next run: Like popcorn, a single ZR mission is never enough. Now you can indulge your binge-running desires by having the next mission start
automatically after the first finishes. Perfect for those days when you’re just hitting your stride as Sam calls you home.

Improved support for music: Thelma and Louise. Butch and Sundance. Zombies, Run! and kickass music. Perfect pairings. This one just got better. You only
need to start Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora, or any other music app before you run, and we’ll lower your music volume when Abel Township gets in
touch.

Zombie chase difficulty: One size *doesn’t* fit all. That’s why you can now adjust chases to fit your mood perfectly. Fancy an easier run to get yourself
back in form? Tweak the zombie mob frequency or speed in Settings. Want to feel like all the hounds of hell are on your heels? We’re right there with you.
Zombie chases: scare yourself fit on your own terms.

Mission synopses: You’ve come a long way, Runner 5. Saved the world more times than you can count. Travelled countless miles and outrun danger at every
turn. That’s a lot to remember - which is why all missions now have synopses so you can re-live your favourite moments from Abel history.

Previously on, and Next ons: Been a while since your last mission? Let our “Previously on Zombies, Run!” clips remind you what’s going on at Abel. Need
even more reasons to raise the gates for your next run? The brand-new “Next On” teasers will get your blood pumping and your feet moving.

Brand new design: Zombies, Run! has never looked better. Janine’s been hard at work giving every surface a new coat of paint, every menu a polish and every
screen that little bit of extra flair. Even better: every mission now has a glorious piece of banner artwork meaning our story now looks as good as it
sounds.

Estimated mission duration: Do I have time for a run before work? What if this is a really long mission? Worry no more: we now show you the estimated duration
of every story mission.

Base Builder: Getting Abel Township off the ground used to be really tricky. Not enough materials, complicated pre-requisites for buildings, pricey base
extensions. That’s why we tweaked the base builder to make it more balanced, easier to understand, and much more fun. Now rebuilding Abel is as much fun
as running from it!

Customisable Clip Spacing: ZR is all about your run, your music, and your pace. Now you can precisely adjust how often we play story clips. Out for a short
run? Get those clips playing more often so you can fit in the whole mission. Training for a marathon? Spread them out so we’re with you the whole way round.
Your run, your way.

And we now sync with Apple Health!

Coming soon:

Improved Zombielink sync: Edit and delete run logs from your phone and see those changes reflected on Zombielink (and vice versa).

Apple Watch: View and control your missions from your wrist. It’s the future!

The words "brand new design" always terrify me. This update sounds awesome but did it break accessibility?

By KE7ZUM on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 14:49

Would I be able to play this even if my tredmeel does not have a way to hold my phone? I want to try this game. I have it just never tried it.

By Lorelei on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 14:49

I got an exercise bike recently, and this sounds like something fun to do while I ride. Any thoughts on whether this would still work with the bike instead of a treadmill?

By alex wallis on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 14:49

Hi having installed this update I can unfortunately report there are major issues with VoiceOver in this update, in particular so far I have discovered one unlabelled button which seems to relate to tracking options. The most serious issue I have discovered is that the buttons to access the different seasons are not available in flick order as they were previously. You have to go groping over the screen hoping you will find them and let me tell you they are quite small I haven't even found the one for season 4 yet. Needless to say I will be contacting the developers and hopefully they can address these issues. I think the accessibility information needs to be updated for this app as the interface now definitely needs work and it is difficult to use. Another thing I have found is that I don't seem to be able to start any radio 4 season 4, I select the radio mode option for season 4 but don't see any way to actually begin playback.

By DPinWI on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 14:49

With the app going free, I decided to try it. I found the unlabelled tracking button, but I cannot find a way to start music playback from within the app. I started playback in the iPhone Music app, but as soon as I started the mission in Zombies, the music stopped, and did not return after the helicopter crash sequence.

Is there a music button I haven't found, hiding somewhere in the app?

By Ro on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 14:49

Glad I checked here before I updated since I'm just getting back to my runs and would hate to run into the accessibility issues. I bet they fix them. These developers have always been wonderful.

As for using the app on a bike, you totally could, I just don't know if it would take any kind of distance. Maybe find a way to strap the phone to your leg so the accelerometer can do it's thing.

For the treadmill question, you want the phone on you anyway, so the accelerometer can work so the fact that there's no place to store the phone isn't an issue.

I play this game jogging in place on a mini trampoline with my phone on me, using ear buds.

By KE7ZUM on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 14:49

Hmm. I have a rebounder so I could try that when I'm not feeling too sick. lol!

by the way if you have no music, what does it use instead?

Take care.

By Ro on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - 14:49

The way the game works is there will be about two minutes of story, then a song then more story while you do the mission. So if the music is broken in this version, there must just be story and then silence.

When you go to more there is a statistics on the upper right is a music tab. However I have noticed it just wants to play the same songs and won't let me change anything. I am going to make a playlist and try and add it.

If anyone figures out how to do this let me know!

I love this but I have started from the beginning and the base-building thing stil is not working.

Love this game though.

I got some sighted assistance. What Voice Over sees as one wide unlabelled button, that only goes to the tracking options, is actually three buttons, for tracking, music, and something else I don't remember right now. I had them set the options the way I wanted. Hopefully, when I go to use the app next, the options we selected will be preserved.
