Review
The IHome IA100 is the flagship unit in IHome's new linf of app-enhanced devices. This means that all dock settings can be controlled and adjusted with apps on an IOS device. The IA100 is universal, meaning that it supports IPhone, IPod Touch, and IPad devices. I am sure IPad 3 support is coming in a future firmware release. This dock features Bluetooth capabilities that allow you to listen to music, as well as make and receive calls. This is in addition to the built-in dock for IOS devices. This is one of the most easy-to-use docks I have ever encountered. I took a gamble last year when I asked for it as a birthday present. I had hoped that the apps would be accessible and the dock would be easy to use. I would have sent it back if it had not been. However, I was not disappointed. All of the app-enhanced devices work with the three apps, which are IHome Sleep, IHome Radio, and IHome Set. Those will not be explained in this review. The IA100 is surprisingly compact for a dock. It features an auxiliary jack on the back, an IDevice dock on the front, and an FM radio. A button on the top of the unit allows you to toggle between Ithe dock, the radio, Bluetooth, and auxiliary. The sound is phenomenal as there are four speakers, two on the front and two larger ones on the sides. I am listening to BBC Radio 5 Live via TuneIn Radio as I write this review and I can hear it across the room. This unit comes with a remote, which I have not had a need for due to the apps. The fact that this dock can be set up via apps was its major selling point for me. If the apps were not there, setting up this dock would be completely inaccessible. You have the ability to sync the dock's time with your device's so it is always up to date. The dock's firmware can also be updated when the IDevice is docked and has one of the apps on it. The alarms are nice and loud, and you have the ability to wake up to Internet radio stations if you have both the Radio and Sleep apps installed. There is a lot more I could say about this device, but I do not want to make this a long read. So, I am providing a link to an audio demonstration I recorded for my podcast, John Moore's Audio Blog. This was recorded last year. Very l title has changed so this is still relevant. Note that this was recorded with IOS 4.3 on an IPhone 4. I know how to update the firmware now, so I can help with that if people need it. Note: you will have until May 19 to get the podcast. On that day, my podcast account will be erased as I have cancelled my subscription. I have quit podcasting but have not taken anything down. The link to my page is http://coasterfreak88.podbean.com. Find the podcast that says "An Introduction To The IHome IA100." Note that this is an informal review that was done on the spur of the moment. Overall, this is one of the best things I"ve ever gotten, and I recommend any device in the IHome app-enhanced Devices line as the apps are accessible and the docks are easy to work with.
