What are the best tools for creating and editing podcasts?

I've been lucky enough to learn a ton from people on this site. Now, I want to give back. A couple days, ago, I bought Audio Highjack. I'm getting ready to start recording podcasts; however, I'm not sure which software I should get to edit my work. Can I do basic audio editing in Garage Band? If so, is it easy? If not, what piece of software should I consider? Thanks in advance for your assistance. I'm looking forward to becoming a more active participant in this awesome community.

Thanks for your interest, we look forward to hearing what you come up with. :)

You have a couple accessible options for editing the files Audio Hijack produces. You can try Audacity, which is free, open-source, and mostly accessible. Or, you can try Amadeus Pro, which is perhaps slightly more user-friendly, but comes with a hefty price tag. I don't have a link for it, sorry.

Alex, Thanks for getting back to me. Now that I've tried to record a podcast, I realize I have quite a bit to learn about Audio Highjack before I can record site-ready podcasts. Then, I'm going to have to learn Audacity. I'm up for the challenge--I want to contribute.
