Accessibility Comments

This app is very accessible. There are a few unlabled buttons and two unlabled text fields, but the app developer is trying to make this the most accessible MUD client app with VoiceOver. I suspect the few unlabeled things will be correctly labeled in the next version.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads most page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some minor accessibility issues with this app, but they are easy to deal with.

Other Comments

Note: To choose a different MUD than the one that you're given when first starting the app, turn off VoiceOver, double-tap and turn VoiceOver back on. You'll then be able to see settings. Then you double-tap on worlds and can pick a different MUD.

I don't think I've ever been as excited about an app update as I was about this one. Great job!

This update is awesome! Thank you for making the voiceover integration work so seemlessly. This app is super useful, and I've successfully mudded with my Bluetooth keyboard using the new update. I've done more than connect, and actually been able to play. The clicking issue seems to be gone as well. There is only one thing that could improve, making the app totally perfect accessibility wise. The command stash, command history forward, and command history back buttons aren't super useful for blind users. They do work, and are accessible, but they aren't very useful. If these buttons could be located either at the top of the screen, or at least at the top of the elements list, it'd be great. This would make it so you only had to hit the left arrow key once to navigate between the typing field and the game text. As it stands, you have to scroll past the buttons before you hit the text sent from the mud. If you didn't have to scroll past these buttons, it'd be less keystrokes to navigate between text and the send field than even with the pc mud client I use. Thanks for doing such a great job with the update. My holiday road trips will not have to be so maddeningly boring now!

HI. I'd have to disagree with the last point. I really like the history buttons where they are from a touch-standpoint, as it's very easy to just flick left and double-tap to repeat a command, then flick right to review it. Just my $0.02 Malthe
As an addition to the last comment, if you want to quickly switch between text field and output area, switch your rotor to vertical navigation. That way you only flick up and down, or press up and down arrows in quicknav mode on bluetooth keyboard to switch.

Yeah, using vertical nav is a good idea. That didn't even occur to me. Everybody wins.

I've been looking for a mud client that actually worked well and read everything properly as it came in. This is exactly what I needed! Thanks!

Hi. The popular 3rd-party keyboard Fleksy just made it possible to integrate its keyboard into other apps. It would be great if you could implement fleksy into mudRammer, potentially making it much quicker to enter commands without the use of a bluetooth keyboard. Thank you for all the work you have done on this app.

Hail MUDbuds! Check out MUDRammer 1.6.3, now available on the app store. This update includes a popular feature request - you can pick a sound to play when your triggers fire! On the Trigger edit page, tap Sound and choose from one of the built-in sounds.

On Fleksy: I've used it before and it's very cool. Looks like they've launched their SDK with just 4 developer partners. I've applied for membership and we'll see if they admit MUDRammer to their program. Stay tuned...

Hi all, I've been having lots of holiday road trip fun with mud rammer, and can happily report that it's working really well for me. Is there any way to make it so the onscreen keyboard won't come up when I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard? Most of the time it doesn't come up, but sometimes when I'm using vertical nav within the app, it seems to bring up the onscreen keyboard even when I'm using a Bluetooth. I don't know if voiceover is causing this or what, but I've been wondering if I can make the keyboard go away once this happens. Happy mudding

Hail MUDbuds! MUDRammer 1.7 is now available with a feature many of you requested: Fleksy keyboard integration!

To use Fleksy in MUDRammer, you must first download the Fleksy app, free on the App Store. Then in MUDRammer, you can press and hold on the text entry area to show a Fleksy button. You can switch back to the standard iOS keyboard at any time.

I read a few days ago about Fleksy's unusual strategy of separating Fleksy VoiceOver into its own product. My understanding is that the current Fleksy keyboard may not work so well with VoiceOver, but these two products will soon merge. I'll definitely keep MUDRammer updated with the latest versions of Fleksy as they are released.

So I've used mudrammer for a while now, and have problems with it. first of All, the speech sometimes skips to the last line of incomming text. Secondly, voiceover goes to the very beginning of the buff when flicking passed the current screen to a previous one. I really hope this, and maybe keyboard commands for bluetooth keyboards and braille displays could be included. For example, control plus N for north, or even something revolutionary like control plus up arrow for north and all that, and control plus up plus left arrows for northwest. Custome commands like control plus k could be assigned to attack, so that a mob name could be entered to make starting battles quicker. I just think mudrammer should be a lot better than what it is. I know its a little hobby app, but people actually use this app now.

I have a question for the dev. There is a PC mud client called MushZ. This client, through Lua scripting, plays sounds for many events, environments, and triggers in any given mud. The best example of how this is used is Oriol Gomez's sound pack for Alter Aeon. Is there any way you can incorporate this into Mud Rammer, maybe create Mud Rammer Pro? I would pay twice the price for this feature as it would take a lot of coding, but would certainly be worth the doing of it.

Can anny one do a podcast on how this app works? I wanna try it but I'm not sure if I wanna buy it if there is no demonstration of this app. Please make a podcast. That would be cool.
Thanks

Hi,
First of all, I want to commend the dev on his work with this app. I absolutely love it! I have only one problem with the app. The gag feature isn't working. I tried to gag the first line of a mud that was all weird punctuation symbols but I could still see it. I also tried randomly gagging an a but that didn't work either. Also, when the dev gets the feature working or explains what I'm doing wrong, I'd also like there to be a way to suppress the status bar I see in a lot of muds. Basically they show up every time you send a command and the response usually includes a line that shows your hitpoints, moves or whatever else and I don't like seeing it every time. Thanks again for making this app and look forward to the future of it.

Hello all.
I have been working with some of the sounds for the mudrammer client. With a lot of effort last night I was able to make mariani and alteraeon have sounds as well. Personally the client has a jab sound that I think mush z should use for the skill jab.
But the way it works with sounds is like this. When you add a new trigger, the first box you see is pattern so you type something like... you sucker punch a guard viciously in the face. The next option is the commands option wich you do not need. After you type the pattern for when you want the sounds to play, you are going to look for a button that says sound none. You double tap on that and then choose the sound you want. Once you've selected your sound now you find the back button, after that you will hear voice over say the pattern and the text you typed for the trigger. And then you double tap save. That's how I added sounds to the muds I play. Not to mention mush z takes a lot of copyrighted materials from games anyway. But I wish there was a way to get more sounds for mudrammer. heck with the equipment I have I would be happy to make some more sounds for mudrammer. Because I know that sounds is something we could use in a mud, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have mudrammer duplicate the affects of mush z but take it a step further and make some in game audio that doesn't copyright as much as mush z. The first sound client for IOS.

Hi,
I installed the app. It is a nice app. I just wished this page was updated a little, because it is a free app now.
Anyhow, does any one have a recommendation for a D&D/ Dungeons And Dragons MUD for this app?

By Steve Sawczyn on Thursday, March 23, 2017 - 17:41

So I've recently started getting back into mudding and remembered that I bought MUDRammer way back when its VoiceOver support became truly awesome. I haven't seen an update for it in a while, however, and am beginning to wonder if the app is still being supported? I know Apple is threatening to discontinue the ability to run legacy apps in future versions of iOS, so am starting to get a bit worried. I think this is a fantastic client and even if i needed to purchase a newer version, it'd sure beat the app becoming deprecated. Anyone know anything?

By Jennifer Kent on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 17:41

I was going to go back to pocket mud pro because its what I knew. Not now. one problem I have no money in the bank. so I cannot afford to pay for the app but I think someone in my family all ready bought it I will look.

By Jennifer Kent on Friday, November 23, 2018 - 17:41

Hi, the gagging issues for the status bar, thats not a client thing. that a mud side issue turn off your prompt as its called. either do one of the following type prompt and toggle it off or tywo type help prompt for there tokens and set it how you like. I am used to prompts I used to have fun dealing with how mushclient and jaws behaved with prompts and encouraging mud devs to put linefeed tokens in there prompt tokens list. most muds you can turn off those odd punctuation marks by killing ansi or color. again help and the item name that should help you. if not talk to the mud admin for help.
