We are pleased to announce the results of the public vote for the August 2014 inductee into the AppleVis iOS App Hall of Fame.

The AppleVis iOS App Hall of Fame is one of the ways in which the AppleVis community seeks to recognize the hard work that developers put into making great applications that are fully accessible to blind and low-vision users. These apps can be liberating; empowering; life-changing; provide access to information that sighted users take for granted; or, in some cases, they can just be good fun!

In short, the AppleVis iOS App Hall of Fame endeavors to recognize the best of the best in terms of accessible iOS applications.

To be considered for possible induction into the AppleVis iOS App Hall of Fame, an app must be fully accessible with VoiceOver, and have been fully accessible for at least 90 days before the public nomination period. Generally, shortlisted apps are those whose developers have gone above and beyond to ensure that accessibility is a high priority, and that the general user experience is exceptional. This certainly proved to be the case with the community’s choice for the August 2014 induction.

The AppleVis community’s choice for the August 2014 iOS App Hall of Fame induction is MBraille, a feature-rich Braille typing app for iOS devices. With MBraille, users can type text messages, Facebook updates, tweets, e-mails, and much more - all using a standard six-dot Braille keyboard.

The fact that not everyone uses Braille makes MBraille’s induction into the iOS App Hall of Fame all the more significant. Additionally, MBraille was previously voted by the community as the AppleVis Golden Apple of 2013, and the developer of MBraille, MPaja, was also chosen as 2013’s Developer of the Year.

The next iOS App Hall of Fame induction will take place in February 2015. If there is an app which you feel should be on the shortlist, please do take a moment to nominate it.

My son has enjoyed the app so much, it has given him active engagement, knowledge building and recreation. The app is not only completely accessible, it is designed for the visually impaired user, with the flow and all the commands beautifully mapped auditorily. Maps have a read me feature where the entire map is read as by an instructor. flags are audio described. National anthems and history is included. And have a mode where you get directed to a particular place on the map. This app is phenomenal. It's a game changer in the field of edutainment and accessibilty on the apple platform. It is revolutionary. I highly recommend it.
