Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long the clear text button has refused to function correctly in both the app store and Itunes store in ios8. Is this a recent development with ios8 or has this been a permanent bug for some time. Doesn't half irritate me.
Very best wishes and thanks in advance.

I'm not totally sure on this, but it seems to me the clear text button can't be activated until the actual search field is being edited. Without being the case, the first attempt at the clear button starts editing the field, then the next actually clears the text. Voiceover doesn't announce the change at all for me, so verifying was necessary.

Thank you Paul, will do as you suggest, I've been double tapping and double tapping until the cows come home with little joy of late.

I think this one might actually be an iOS 8 bug. I don't recall it happening in iOS 7.

Many thanks for your help Paul, double tapping twice on the button works as expected. I would never have thought of doing that so pleased that there is a work around. Also good to know that this is likely an IOS8 problem. I'll report it along with the other 5 emails I've sent them in the last month.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Clear Text button isn't actually on the screen until you start editing the text. The bug is that VoiceOver thinks the button is there when it isn't.

Thanks for the contribution, I don't mind so much when there is a relatively simple way around the issue and it doesn't disrupt your workflow hugely. I would be mostly satisfied if they could find a way of addressing Safari's behavior in the upcoming months, that is the outstanding one for me. Did get a stock response from accessibility regarding that one, so they obviously recognize it is an issue. This is basically my first Iphone and first time using IOS, so really all of your contributions on this site have been invaluable.
