Generally speaking, the First Generation iPad should offer accessibility support concurrent with the iOS 5 operating system feature set.
If you're purchasing this device (vs. receiving it as a gift), you should know that the First Generation iPad is discontinued and is no longer receiving software updates. According to the linked-to Wikipedia article, the last software update the iPad 1 received was iOS 5.1.1 on May 7, 2012. So while the iPad 1 certainly offers all the accessibility features of iOS 5, it isn't anything I'd personally recommend anyone purchase.
Congrats on getting your first iPad. Like the previous poster said, if you get it for free or near free, that’s awesome. If you have to pay a good sum of money, consider shopping around for a 3rd gen or newer.
I still have my iPad 1st gen and it still works. It is accessable but the downside is it does not have Siri. If Vo for some reason gets turned off, you will need to reset accessability by using iTunes or a sighted person.
It’s a great way to start on the IOS path. Just be aware a lot of accessable apps will not run on it.
